MEDFORD, OREGON SUNDAY, MAY 7. 1961 Dietetic Internship Sponsored by AF A program of sponsored di etetic internship has been an nounced by the Air Force re cruiting office in Portland. Beginning July 1, graduate dietitians who have been ac cepted by ADA-approved hos pitals for internship may be sponsored by the Air Force. Following the 12-month in ternship at civilian hospitals, the dietitians are called to ac . Uve duty for an additional six-month internship at spe cially selected AF hospitals. Courses will include the ad ministration and management of the entire food service op eration. Additional information may be obtained after June 1 at the local Air Force recruiting office in the Medford post office building. Checking Cars Results In Checking Accidents Medford motorists have been asked by Police Chief Charles P. Champlin to check accidents by checking cars. "We want to enlist the sup port of every local motorist in getting his car in top me chanical shape as we approach the heavy driving season," Chief Champlin said. Chief Champlin listed the following points that motor ists should check: , , Brakes should take hold evenly on all wheels; hand brake should be able to hold car on any hill. Headlights should be at cor rect level. Rear and stop light as well as directional signals should operate properly. Tires should be checked for wear and proper inflation. Wheel alignment should be 'ested on reliable equipment. Windshield wipers should be checked; "dead" blades re placed. All glass should be free of cracks or distortions; view blocking stickers should be removed. Rear-view mirrors should be adjusted to give clear view behind. The chief noted that the Annual Vehicle Safety check program will be in full swing in Oregon during May and June. He said the safety check program offered every motor ist a chance to make certain his car was in top shape for safe operation. Pre-School Clinic Slated in Talent Talent A pre-school clin ic for children entering the first grade at Talent next fall will be conducted by the Jackson County Health de partment Wednesday, May 10, in the music room of the new elementary building. Sponsored by the Phoenix Talent Parent Teacher associ ation, the clinic is for children who will not receive pre school health examination by private physicians. Cancer Society Collects $4,000 in Home Crusade Contributions to the Amerl can Cancer Society from the Medford area as of Tuesday totalled well over $4,000, ac cording to Reese Alexander, Jackson county crusade chair man. Cancer of the blood and blood-forming organs and its modern treatment will be the subject of the John Tomlin ' Memorial Cancer lectures in Medford Wednesday and Thursday, May 10 and 11. Dr. Oscar T. Heyerman is chair ' -man. - i - This type of malignant growth, widespread in the body, is best treated by a combination of X-ray therapy and tumor-destroying drugs. . Advances in techniques in these fields of medicine, and particularly in development of safer and more efficient drugs .have been rapid in recent years, it was reported, and the Tomlin lectures speakers this year are three men ac tively engaged in this work at major treatment centers. In Tumor Research ; Dr. Laurens P. White is as sociated with the tumor re search and treatment divisions of Children's Medical center, Boston, Mass. He will discuss pharmacology of drugs used in treating this type of dis ease. Dr. Nicholas L. Petrakis, University of California Medi cal center, San Francisco, will discuss use of drug agents in treating leukemias and lym phomas, and will review new techniques and applications still under study. " Dr. Sydney F. Thomas, ra diologist from the Palo Alto Clinic and Research founda tion, California, will describe 'modern x-ray use. Dinner Meeting Set t The lectures will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rogue Valley Country club and ex pend through Thursday morn ing.
