The house could be the forerunner of a profit able new enterprise for the Mt. Pitt company. A 16 by 40 foot version of the shell home has been put together in about 40 minutes by only four men. The house is based on an idea by R. V. Steuteville, superintendent of the Mt. Pitt company. The house has the advan tage of being both strong and portable, two factors not pre-. viously found together in home construction. Its inven tors claim it is so simple that it is virtually impossible for even an untrained person to make a mistake. Self-Aligning All parts are self-aligning. Grooves are already in the studs and plates to receive and hold the wall components. Nails are not used in construc tion, but bolts are placed in several key locations to hold the structure together. No special handling equip ment is necessary during con struction, as all components can easily be lifted by hand. All the parts of a 12 by 20 foot building can be hauled to a job site in a pickup truck. " Possible Markets Several possible markets exist for the shell-house, in cluding use as cabana homes on house trailers, vacation homes, farm buildings, ga rages, carports and low-cost housing. But, the Mt. Pitt company points out that the project is still under development, and several problems remain to be worked out before it could be marketed. The Douglas Fir Plywood association and the Fiddes Moore company of Portland have been assisting and en couraging the Mt. Pitt com pany in the project. Wafer Sports Take Prominent Place Water sports are taking a more prominent place in the i.I'f're time activities of many sou '.hern Oregon and northern California residents. Activities connected with water include swimming, skin diving, boating, fishing, and water skiing. And thee are an abundant number of lake and streams throughout this area which provide idem loca tions. Water skiing is one of the most rapidly, developing sports, and with the addition of Howard Prairie lake, and the enlarged Emigrant lake, more water surface is provid ed. Lake Shasta, in northern .California, and Klamath lake, just east of the Cascades, are popular among many resi dents of this area. Another large body of wa ter will be added to the rec reation site list in northern California when the Trinity dam project is completed. It will provide a lake about as large as Lake Shasta. During the next few years, lake recreation facilities may be added in this immediate area should the Rogue Basin project be approved. Several lakes would result in Jackson county. The highest camp site In Rogue River National forest is at Alta lake-6,820 feet in elevation-in the Seven Lakes Basin area. IS THE TIME TO REMODEL!
