Terry al " lowed the first two men to face him in the eighth inning get aboard, but Arroyo came on and got Bubba Phillips to ' bounce into a double play to kill the rally. The Senators have lost six of their last seven games and have scored a total of five runs in their last six outings. Frank Lary was given a nine-run lead by the Detroit Tigers, but he still needed bullpen help before achieving his fourth straight triumph of the season, 9-5, over Boston. Dick Brown hit a grand slam homer for the Tigers, Jake Wood connected for a three run blow and Rocky Colavlto contributed a solo blast. Tom Brewer of Boston was tagged with his first defeat against two victories. Marv Throneberry hit a Prospect sured itself of a place in the District 5B baseball playoffs with a 7 to 1 decision over Butte Falls. It was the third win of the season for Prospect over Butte Falls and clinched the Jack son County B league laurels for the Cougars. The two schools are the only two Class B baseball participants in the county. ' Errors enabled the Loggers to get their only run in the first inning. Gardner struck out BF players 10 times and did not walk a one. Cliff Chap man nit two for three for Prospect and Bob Fitch dou bled. Homer Doesn't Count Gardner hit a ball over the fence good for four bases with John Rogers aboard in the sixth nning. On the notion that the ball was foul, Rogers was ordered, from the coach ing box, to return to first base and he trotted across the dia mond. The ball was ruled fair, however, and . Gardner con tinued around the bases. But. he was called out for passing tne advance runner at third. For the Butte Falls run an error and a fielder's option put runners on base. Then a third strike was dropped and the throw to first was dropped, allowing in the score. Logger pitcher Art Ellis walked six and whiffed three in a nine-hitter. PSC's left - handed Riese went the route, striking out 10 SOC batters and walking five. SOC starter Marty Vog ler took the loss, being re lieved by Tichenor and Larry Carr. Saturday's opener saw er rors open the gates lor tne visitors in the fifth after the Raiders had built a 3-0 lead. Catcher Jess Munyon's homer over the right field fence in the third chased home two SOC markers. But in the fifth, SOC start er John Cook ran into trouble, giving up four unearned runs on a triple by Don Lowry, a two-bagger by Lewis and three SOC errors. In the seventh, six more PSC runs romped home as six singles, a double by Ronnie Saito and another Raider er ror pushed the score to 10-3. Tha Raiders' final tally grand-slam homer off Herb Score and Haywood Sullivan socked a three-run double to pace the Kansas City Ath- letics to a 13-9 decision over the Chicago White Sox. Re lief pitcher Dave Wicker, sham,, recalled from Shreve port of the Southern associa tion earlier this week, got the win and Gerry Staley was charged with the defeat. Klein struck out two and walked two in picking up the win. Cook fanned four and walked but two in taking the loss. , ., Riese brought the 12-inning marathon to an abrupt halt in the third game of the series, scoring Lewis who had walk ed ahead of him on his game wining four-bagger. Lowry blasted a two-run 300-foot homer for PSC in the first frame. . McLemore got one run back for SOC in the third with a solo homer over the left field barrier, then the Raiders tied the score at 6-6 with three runs in the fourth. Rossetto, McLemore and Munyon all had RBI singles in that frame. PSC's Hendry hurled the final 8-23 innings, giving the Raiders only two hits, to pick up the win. Tichenor, who took over with two out in the fourth, allowed the Viks only three safeties until the fatal 12th. MEDFOHD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON Crater Cindermen Subdue Ashlanders Central Point Sparkling performances were numer ous here Friday afternoon in a track engagement which saw Crater high trim Ashland 72V4 to 50V4. Held in conjunction with the varsity meet was a ninth grade dual affair' which Cra-r ter's Comets took 82V4 to 43V. The varsity clash saw Ash land's Bob Voris capture the high hurdles with a sizzling :14.8, win the low barriers with a fine :20.5 and pace the broad jump with a long 21 feet 1V4 inches. Crater's Gary Wald blazed through the 100-yard dash in :10 flat and later romped through the 220 in :23 even. Little Joe McCalvy rambled through the 440 for the Com ets in :52.6. The high jump saw a four way tie at 5-11 among Dwight James and Bryson LaCasse of Crater and Stewart Hedges and Forrest Farmer of Ash land. Outside this deadlock Crater had seven clear firsts and Ashland six. The Comets swept the discus, the 100 and the 220 and the Grizzlies the pole vault. In the ninth grade conten tion Sherm Kiger won the broad jump and 75 and 150- yard dashes for Crater, Denny ityerson took the high jump and 440 and Younir the shot put and discus. The Comets got 11 first, including the for- of four games. - Howard, the Dodgers' 6-7 first baseman, gave Johnny Podres all the support he heeded in working . to his third pitching victory against no defeats. Podres gave up only seven hits, including a ninth inning home run by Ernie Banks. Podres was locked in a 3-3 battle when Howard cleared the bases with his grand slam smash in the fifth inning. Charlie Smith followed with the third Dodger home run off Cub starter and loser Dick Ellsworth. First Blast Howard hit his first home run in the second inning, a drive over the left field wall which also brought in Don Demeter, who was safe on the first of two Chicago errors. The San Francisco Giants. hitless against- Warren Spahn Friday night, blasted 15 safe ties Saturday, including five homers, to defeat the Mil waukee Braves, ' 7-3. Willie McCovey slammed two round trippers for the Giants, and the other were hit by Felipe AIou, Orlando Cepeda and Jim Davenport. Juan Marichal went all the way for San Francisco to gain his first victory of the season against one defeat and starter Bob Buhl suffered his second straight setback for the Braves. Pittsburgh was at Cincin nati and Philadelphia at St. Louis in night games. In night games, Vernon Law was credited with his first victory of the year as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeat ed the Cincinnati Reds, 6-3, and Art Mahaffey pitched a four-hitter to give the Phila delphia Phils a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Richard Ireland won the 75 and 150-yard dashes for South along with the high jump. Gil Maakestad took the discus and low hurdles and Bob Bauer the shot put and javelin for the Trojans. All the scoring in the open er was in the second inning. The Cavemen got their mark ers on a' walk, a stolen base, a hit by Bud Keller, a dropped third strike and an overthrow miscue. " A walk, . stolen base and Wayne Clay's single tallied for. the Comets.. Jim Thomp son pitched a. two-hitter for GP with eight strikeouts; five walks( and - a -hit batsman. Gary Burns recorded 10 whiffs in a four-hitter for Crater. He walked a batter and hit one.' Bob Peters had two hits for GP. Winning Hun Burns drove in the winning run for the Comets with 8 hit in the bottom of the sev enth inning after bases on balls had filled the bases. Crater took a 3 to 1 lead in the mix in the bottom of the second panel on two walks, Mike Anhorn's single and an error. The game was planned for five innings but went two extra because of two Grants Pass tallies in the fifth on O'Brien's single,, a walk and James' triple. James tried to make it a homer but was "out by a mile" trying to slide in for the run. Two errors, Including a dropped fly ball gave the Cavemen a tally in the first inning. Just one game was played because of the desire of the Klamath , players to return home early for a school func tion. A time limit of 5 p.m. for starting a new inning was set and six frames were play ed. . .. Yunck's home run was in the third canto after two bases on balls and a single by John Parisotto. ; KF had a 5 to 2 edge after four innings. Medford picked up two runs in the bottom of the fifth but the visitors add ed two of their own in the sixth in singles by Jim Kurth and Terry Maw and three walks. Medford got two runs in the third inning on a triple by Larry Sander, a walk and a groundout. The two in the fifth were on a base on balls, a single by Jim Watson and a double by Gary Miller.
