State Engineer Lewis Stan ' ley said the committee should be "very appreciative" that counties are spending a good share of their O&C funds for ' development of recreation. Three Main Projects Jones, Clackamas ' county i commissioner, said three main , projects at present are: . 1. A new chair lift at Mt. ' Hood to replace the old Magic Mile chair lift., : ! 2. New access to the Mt. Ashland ski area. 3. Spencer road, .11 miles O&C timber access roads which will connect with 13 miles of new Klamath county roads. This, Jones said, will provide access to new skiing . areas and access to Buck lake. The route would run from a . point near Klamath Falls to a sector south of Lake of the Woods. Jones said $72,000 is being pent this year in a coopera tive program with the bureau of land management to estab lish camp sites on O&C ... lands. Next year ; another '. S 100,000 will go for this pro gram and in 1963 $250,000 is budgeted, he said. FRIDAY. Medford Man Appears In District Court Ronald Wayne Shaw, 30, of Eugene, and 231 King St., Medford, was arraigned in district court Wednesday aft ernoon on a charge of obtain ing money by false pretenses. Shaw' was arrested by Med ford city police Tuesday after noon for cashing nine checks in the Medford area totaling $145.25. Grissom, Lake Creek, were placed on pro bation by Circuit Court Judge James M. Main Wednesday when they appeared for sen encing. The pair was arrest ed by state police following the Feb. 22 shooting 'incident, and had pleaded guilty to the charge. , .' .,, : Norman Clarence Love, 27, of 211 North Columbus avp , and Duane Calvert, 27, of 413 West Second St., were placed under strict control of the pa role 1 and probation depart ment and imposition of sen tence was suspended for five years. Under terms of the proba tion, 'both must refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages, must not own or possess a firearm, and must obey all laws and make restitution, if not already made. Calvert was also ordered to support his legal dependents. Darrell La Verne Farlss, 40, of 2870 Crater Lake highway, pleaded guilty in circuit court Wednesday morning to con tributing to the dellquency of a minor. Judge Main ordered him to be sent to the Oregon State hospital for examina tion and a pre-sentence report will be made.. , David Eugene Harper, 28, Gold Hill, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary not In a dwelling, and his case was continued for pre-sentence re port. Harper was arrested In connection with the entering of a Jacksonville : lumber company March 16. : Two People Wanted Here Are Arrested Two persons who are want ed by the Medford police de partment on check charges have been r arrested else where in Oregon, and Med ford police have placed holds on both subjects. Donna Jean Poffenbarger, 22, was arrested Wednesday in Eugene, and is being held in the Lane county jail. Med ford police hold a district court warrant charging her with uttering and publishing a forged check. Her suspected accomplice, Edward James Chambers, 29, was arrested In Bend Wed nesday, and is how held in the Deschutes county jail. Dur ing the World War II, Smith served as a forward Observer, communications officer, bat tery commander, and later was an instructor, at Washing ton and Lee university, Lex ington, Va. He also served as information and education of- NX ,' LeROY J. SMITH ' ficer in the Central Pacific area. - Following his retirement from the service, he was sales manager for the Ediphone di vision of Thomas A.' Edison company, southern California, Arizona and southern Nevada; and was manufacturer's repre sentative in the electronics in dustry in the same area. " He is married and has three children, Kathleen, 14; Curt, 12; and Michele, 8. ' - Smith said he is "extremely proud of our educational sys tem, and the personnel re sponsible for its success here in Medford, and , indeed the entire state. "It would be my desire to continue .and further the pro grams which have made this recognition possible. Obvious ly we should continue to seek hew and improved methods of education, consistent with sound financial management. . "My entire family takes an active interest in all school functions possible, and are genuinely interested in all children's educational . wel fare.
