Catholics Urged To Abandon Pressure
. ' Bloomlngton, Ind.-A prom
inent Catholic lawyer , has
urged his fellow-Catholics to
abandon "local political pres
sure" in their dealings with
opposing groups. '. . ' ' '
In a book published today
by Indiana University Press,
entitled "Life, Death and the
Law," British legal expert
Norman St. John - Stevas
warns that "the hostility
aroused against the Catholic
community by these tactics
would be hard to over-estimate.
,
"They strengthen in the
non-Catholic mind the ever
present fear of Catholic pow
er and do much to nullify the
persuasive force of Catholic
teaching. In proportion to
their ill effect their good ef
fect is small, and Catholics
would be well advised to
abandon them."
In "Life, Death and the
Law," an examination of law
and Christian morals in Eng
land and the United States,
St. John-Stevas discusses in
turn birth control, homosexu
ality, sterilization,, euthanasia,
artificial insemination, and
sucide, with the Intent -"to
clarify the.basic issues under
lying existing controversies
and to assist their resolution
through the medium of ration
al discussion." ,;
