Legal Opposition
Position Noted
By Peter Gunnar
Grants Pass - The Republi
can party at the federal level
has the hard, job of "being
proper legal opposition" for
the next four years, accord
ing to Peter Gunnar, Salem,
chairman' of the Western Re
publican State Chairman's as
sociation, who spoke in Grants
Pass last night.
"This task is particularly
difficult in foreign affairs," he
remarked.
'We Republicans must con
stantly make it completely
clear that in foreign, affairs
our president acts with the
support of all Americans, re
gardless of party," Gunnar
emphasised. "
"On the other hand, we
have a duty to the American
people to discuss openly and
frankly our foreign policy in
the making," Gunnar said.
Republican Duty '
"This is a Republicn duty
now because half of the peo
ple voted, for the Republican
conduct and concepts in for
eign affairs," he said. -
Many Americans, and I am.
one of them, join Sen. Thrust
on B.'Morton.'Ropublican Na
tional Committee chairman, in
a deep; concern over the pro
posed .' coalition solution in
Laos. History shows clearly
that ' neutralist coalitions
which'1, include ' totalitarian
agents,' whether Communist
or Fascist, quickly are over
come by those enemies of
freedom. Every U.S. expert on
the scene opposes this solu
tion," Gunnar said. . - i ?
Gunnar presented the Jose
phine county precinct workers
with certificates, of achieve
ment In . I960 signed by
former, vice president Rich
ard Nixon, National Chairman
Morton, Gov. Mark Hatfield.
