NATIONAL LEAGUE Detroit (1IPD Nearly every Stanley Cup playoff produces a hero from the ranks of the unknown. And Wednesday night it was Bruce MacGregor, a 19-year-old rookie who suddenly crashed into hockey's bright est limelight.' ' MacGregor fired home the wining goal in Detroit's 2-1 victory over the Chicago Black Hawks and the payoff shot enabled the Red Winsrs to come from behind once again and even the final series, this time at two games apiece. , Chico State last Tuesday. Friday the Wolves of OCE, winless in their only two con ference starts against Port land State, host the Raiders in a nine-inning contest at 3 p.m. On Saturday the pair of seven inning games get underway at 10 a.m. Schopf has been sending his crew through rugged hit ing and defensive drills this week, aimed primarily at cor recting the Raiders' sudden hitting slump. "Defensively, we have improved quite a bit since the first of the season," stated Schopf, "but recently our hitting has fallen off enough to warrant these ex tra drills." The Raider lineup for the opening week end of confer ence play at Monmouth seems set, with the exception of sec ond base. There, junior Jack Kopacz and sophomore Joe Funderburg are both rated as tossups for the starting nod against the Wolves. Otherwise, it will be Jess Munyon handling the back stopping chores, John Buck at first base, Kerm McLamore at third, and Dave Hughes at shotstop. In the outfield John Cook will be in left, Eldon Francis in center, and Damien Rossette in right. Handling the pitching du ties for the week end will be lefthander Marty Vogler, and righthanders Don Vannice and Kay Kelley. D S SNEAD EYES TITLE Greensboro, N. Viks Assigned To West Loop Of Pro Circuit New York -IUPB-The new Minnesota Vikings will start play in the National Football league as a member of the Western conference and the Dallas Cowboys will shift to the Eastern division, Commis sioner Pete Rozelle has an nounced today. In releasing the expanded schedule for 1961, Rozelle an nounced that each club in the league will play a home-and-home series with each of the six other teams in its divis ion, plus two games against teams from the opposite di vision.' ' 14-Game Slates Each team will play a 14 game schedule starting Sept. 17, making a total of 98 games. This will mean one additional home game and another on the road for each club. With the addition of the Vikings as the 14th club in the NFL, it was feared at last December's league meeting that both Minnesota and Dal las would have to compete as "swing" teams In 1961, that is, they would have to play every other club in the league once.
