Erin Merkel, county health officer. In addition, there are a number of unconfirmed cases still -under investigation, he added. There have been 11 hew cases, some of whom are chil dren, confirmed so far in 1961, and all 11 are now under treatment, he said. This compares with 16 for all of last year, and 11 for 1939. Ages for the patients range from 8 months to 78 years, ac cording to records at the health department, with some of the disease discovered by private physicians, and some at the chest x-ray clinic op erated at the Sacred Heart hospital by the Jackson Coun ty- Tuberculosis and Health association. . This brings to 158 the number of tuberculosis cases in Jackson county on the case registry of the health de partment. Because tuberculo sis is a communicable disease, the health department . is charged with its control. Dr. Merkel pointed . out that children who have the Urges pealed over Castro's bead to the Cuban people. The department said - that Cuba was being "steadily and purposely directed toward a single goal - the transforma tion of Cuba into a Soviet satellite state." Youngblood said the access policy of the bureau of land management aims to provide suitable and adequate road systems to manage the public lands. It is often necessary to cross private lands, and the cooperation of private land owners greatly assists the bu reau in providing efficient management, he said. The demand was delivered to the Swiss government, which rep resents U.S. diplomatic inter ests in Cuba. i ' Boarded Off Baracoa ' ' ' The State Department said the Western Union, an 86-foot sailing vessel, was intercepted and boarded four to five miles off Baracoa on the northeast Cuban coast, near Guanta namo Bay. The ship had been repairing; the Barbados-Miami cable and had put into- Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, for fuel and stores. It was on its way from Puerto . Rico to' Key West when it was intercepted.
