ASTER SUNKIS CES SET BY Easter Morning Activities Listed at First Christian; Evening Cantata Planned "Does Jesus Walk the Earth Today?" is the title of the Eas ter sermon which the Rev. Fredrick Ross Evans will ' preach at both services Sun day morning at the First Christian church. The youth choir will sing, '"Twas on One Sunday Morn ing" at the first service. At the second service the chan cel choir will sing "Joy to the World" and a trio number. "Teach Me to Love Thee" will be sung by Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam and the Rev. Glenn Mc Kerrow. Miss Rith Ritten house will play a violin solo "Angels Serenade" for the of fertory. , Mrs. Herbert Sims and Mrs. Frank Taylor will be host esses for the coffee hour fol lowing tlie second service. . During the opening exer cises of the church school a tape recording will be played that has recently been receiv ed from Dr. John Ross, medi cal missionary to the Congo. Dr. Ross and his family have just returned to their hospital station in Lotumbe. In the tape they tell of the condi tions there. Todd Caster will be the study leader for the Chris tian Youth Fellowship meet ing at 6:30 p.m. on the sub ject "The Scene Has Chang ed." Easter Cantata The chancel choir under the direction of Ronald W. Bartlett, will present the Easter Cantata, "Life Ever lasting," Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Members of the choir who will be in special numbers are Mrs. Walter Larsen, Mrs. A. H. Schmechel, Mrs. Ste phen Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. William G. Preston, Mr. and Mrs. McKerrow, Stephen Par rish, Loren Smith and Ron ald Bartlett. A reception for the choir will be given after the cantata. Saturday the Christian Men's Fellowship will have breakfast at the church at 7 a.m. Musical numbers will be given by Gary Beard and Mr. Evans will present the program. Tuesday evening a caravan of cars will go to Grants Pass to attend a district dinner Children To Make Flower Cross Sunday The children of Ascension Lutheran church Sunday School will each take a flow er to the 9:45 a.m. opening exercise Sunday. The flowers will be placed on a screened cross which will later be placed against the central cross outside the church at 2501 Barnett rd. The Rev. Elvin S. Gold Hill Church Announces Title Of Easter Sermon Gold Hill - "Take One Giant Step" will be the title of the sermon by the Rev. Lochlen L. Gregory, pastor of the Gold Hill Community Methodist church Sunday at 11 a.m. During the worship hour on Easter the sacrament of bap tism will be administered and new members will be received into the church. An Easter anthem entitled "Christ The Lord Has Arisen Today" will be sung by the church choir, directed by Mrs. C. Norman Gail, choir direct or. Singing w'th the choir in observance of Easter will be several male voices, the Rev. O. L. Kendal, retired Metho dist minister, and youths of the church, Robert Turner, Paul Tsompson, Donald Gail, and Ogden Kellogg. The church trio composed of Mrs. Gail, Mrs. Paul Mol loy and Mrs. Roy Eskew will sing "Easter Light." Mrs. John Bruce will be organist. Sev eral combined community services will also be held with the public invited to uttend any of the services. The annual Easter sunrise service here will be held Sun day at 6 a.m. at Huener's Butte on Bellinger lane, just west of Memory Gardens Memorial park between Med ford and Jacksonville. Dr. Clifford Miller, Chris tian layman and professor of history at Southern Oregon college will be the speaker. The service is sponsored by the Medford Interdenomina tional Youth Council. Young people participating will include Joel Gregory and Nancy Husel, First Presby terian; Mary Satterfield, East wood Baptist; Vicki Ingram, Zion Lutheran; and Victor Klukkert, First Church of the Nazarene. Joyce Stockstill, First Christian church, will be organist. The service is open to all regardless of denomination. Ascension Lutheran The early service at Ascen sion Lutheran church, 2501 Barnett rd., will be held at 6 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. El vin S. Tollefson, pastor, will speak on "The Double Dawn" and will be assisted by the youth of the church. At 7:15 a.m. the Easter breakfast will be served at the church. Church of Brethren The Church of the Brethren will begin the observance of Easter with a sunrise service on Roxy Ann. The Youth Fel lowship is in charge and will present, "An Easter Triologue for Youth. Worshippers will leave the church at 5:30 a.m. to drive to the east side of the mountain. Friends Church Young people of Medford Friends church will conduct a sunrise service Sunday at 5:50 a.m. on the hill at the J. W. Following the service breakfast will be served at the Dr. Alvin Roberts' home on Taylor rd. St. Mark's Episcopal The sunrise choral Euchar ist will be held at 6:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal. It will be held to Goundo's set ting of the holy communion sung by the senior choir under the direction of John E. Drysdale with Mrs. Ernest C. Conrad at the organ. The service will include the introil "I Know That My Re deemer Liveth" by Handel, and the anthem "He Is Ris en," together with hymns of the resurrection. The service will be repeat pealed at 11 a.m. with a ser mon by the Rev. George R. V. Bolster, rector. St, Peter's Lutheran The sunrise service will be held at 6 a.m. Sunday at the Starlite Drive-in theater on South Pacific highway, by St. Peter's Lutheran church. Persons may attend and re main in their cars, according to the Rev. John E. Simon, pastor. The first 500 worship pers will receive a gold-plated lapel cross. Music will include record ings of the St. Peter's choir under the direction of Al Huntemann accompanied by Mrs. Richard Smith. Salvation Army Hie annual sunrise service for the Medford Salvation Army will be held out-of-doors at 6 a.m. at the Shelter on Crews rd. Maj. James Watt, Portland, will be the guest speaker. The Bible Melody trio, consisting of Jerry Holdridge, Alvin Kroon and John Champ will sing, "In Remembrance of Me." Gold Hill-All Easter sun rise service will be held in Gold Hill Sunday at 6 a.m. on the hill above the city reservoirs. According to church officials there is am ple parking space. In case of rain the services will be held at the Assembly of God church, corner of Fifth ave. and Eighth st. A trio will sing "Were You There?" The trio is composed of Mrs. Charles Pearson, Mrs. Lochlin L. Gregory, and Miss Jean Cunningham, minister of the Gold Hill Christian church. The Easter message will be given by the Rev. Charles Pearson, pastor of the Gold Hill Assembly of God church. He will be assisted by the Rev. Mr. Gregory, pastor of the Gold Hill Community Methodist church, and the Rev. O. L. Kendal, retired Methodist minister. The services are being sponsored through the united efforts of the three churches. Talent-The Talent Me'ho- dist church will hold a sun rise service on Terrill hill one mile northeast of Talent at 6 a.m. Sunday. All members of the community ara invited to atlend. Following the service an Easier breakfast will be held at the Ivan Olson residence for members and friends of the church. While City-Easter sunrise service will be held near White City on the Hoover property Sunday at 6 a.m. Russell Carr, Medford, will be the speaker. The Berean Baptist church, White City, will have charge of the service and the Eagle Point Grange will have charge of the direction of traf fic, parking, and ushering. Simon, several weeks ago that his topic would be Christian Careers," Mr. Si mon took it for granted that Professor Robert Menzel, head of public relations and recruitment at Concordia col lege, Portland, would give a sermon telling the need of more workers in the church. Mr. Simon was taken by surprise to learn that the ser mon commemorated his 25th anniversary as minister. The building is open throughout the year dally and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The showings include the story of the painting and of Tha Last Supper. Anniversary tended by the largest church crowd of the year, letters from all of Mr. Simon's form er parishes were read. Ordained in Montana Mr. Simon was ordained and installed as pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, Park Cltv, Mont., on Palm Sunday, 1036. While at Park City he also organized St. - .il's con gregation at Columbus and was instrumental in starting Lutheran church work at Hardin and St. Xavlor. After short ministries at Hamilton, Mont., and Parma and Home dale, Ida., during World War II, he spent eight years as pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran church, Toledo, Ore. While at Toledo he also organized All Nations Lutheran church, Newport, and served a preach ing place at DcLake-Ocean Lake. His next charge was at Hood River from where he organized the work at Bingen White Salmon, Wash,, and in the Chenoweth area in sub urban The Dalles. Mr. Simon was installed at St. Peter's church, Medford, in January, 1959. Since com ing to Medford he has also served his denomination as counselor of the Southern Oregon Circuit of the North west District. His wife teaches French and English at Ashland High school. They have a daughter, Helen, who teaches music in the Yelm, Wash., schools; their son John M., a minis terial student, is presently on a self-planned cultural tour of Europe; another son, Wil liam, Is a freshman at Con cordia college, and is editor of the college publication, "The Carillon", and a third son, Tommy, is a pupil at Roosevelt school. ffB-SBS CHURCtfl Whose CHRIST'S or Wo often hear the statement, "Attend Uio church of your cliolce.
