Many people ask me about a male menopause or "change ot life." Some do not question that there Is such a condi tion, while others wonder If what they have read some where about it is true. I imagine that many ph y 8 i c i ans Aivare. wouia say that some men around the age of 50 go through a mental crisis, Often, when this happens I suspect it is due largely to the man s tendency to be dis satisfied with whatever type of success has come to him Perhaps with the departure of his children from his home he feels the more dissatisfied with his unhappy marrlnge Perhaps he gets to wonder ing if still he could get out of the business he has always dlsiked, and into one much more congenial to his tastes. Or, perhaps ' he gets to thinking that if ever he Is to find happiness with a woman, he had better find It soon, be fore It is too late. Perhaps like H. M. Tomllnson, who years ago wrote, "The Sea and the Jungle," he much wants to escape from a com muter's treadmill, and to get away into a lazy life, perhaps In the South Seas, Can B No Doubt I have never been able to accept the idea of a male change of life due to atrophy of the testes, corresponding to that ot women, which Is due to atrophy of the ovaries. In women there can be no doubt about the shrinking of the ovaries and the loss of most of their function. The resultant nervous changes which, if they are to come at all, usual ly come soon after the cessa tion of the menses, are well KOTI-TV (Channel 2) MONDAY 4 :0O American Bandstand fl:0t Chaplaln'a Corner Silft Town St Country Work Shop 5:30 Dennla ttie Menace 6:00 Six O'clock Report 8:10 Weather 8:15 Doug Edwards 0:30 Red Skelton 7:00 Hennesey 7:30 Cheyenne 8:30 Br I nflna: Up Buddy 8:00 Danny Thomas 9:30 Adventurei In Paradise 10:30 Peter Gunn TUESDAY 10:40 Morning Newa ' u:in lopco nome snow 11:00 Moriainir Court 11:30 Love That Bob 12:00 CamouMaa-e 12:30 Aa the World Turns 1:00 About races 1:34 News 1:30 House Party 2:00 Day in Court 2:30 Road to Reality 3:00 Brighter Day 3:15 Secret Storm 3:30 Edge of Night 4:00 Amrrtcnn Bandstand 5:00 Chaplain's Comer 5:10 Tech Talka fl:3li Quick Draw McGraw fl;00 Six o'clock Report 8;l(WrV Weatherman (1:13 Doug Edwards and Newi (1:30 Wilbur & Mr, Ed 7 00 Expedition 7:30 Rest of Post A 00 The Rifleman 30 Wyatl arp S 00 Staaeooach Wes 10:00 ncll and Unwell Presents 1 1 :oo i.arry Moore Flames Damage Mill at Waldport Waldport - (UPJi - An early morning fire caused an esti mated $45,000 damage Sunday to tne Sunday Brothers plan ing mill near here. LAW VETERAN DIES Salisbury, England-lUPll-The Earl of Shaftsburg, 91, who had served in the House of Lords longer than any other member, died Saturday. V is Pearson JEWELER 9 So. Central - SP 2-9392 Scientifically Timed Watch Repair known and easily recogniz able. I am sure there is no such typical group of symp toms in men. Also, a man s testicles do not shrink and lose their function around the age of 50. There are many cases on record In which a man in his 80s has fathered a child. Another objection to the idea of a mala meno pause is the fact that when a physician sees a case of what he thinks is this condition, and gives the man many in jections of male hormone, the result is likely to be nil. Another fact is that when a man of 50 suffers a slight depression and his doctor thinks he is in a male meno pause the chances are that the patient has no lack of sex ual interest and potency. An answer to the last argument is, of course, that many wom en remain sexually normal after the menopause. In the cases of both men and women sexual normalcy often de pends more on the mental at titude than on the functions of the glands of the body.
