MEDFORD MAIU TRIBUNE. MEDFOPD, ORE. SUNDAY. MARCH 28, 1951 SUNDAY. MARCH 28, 1961 Amaranth Court Has ' Election Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Swing were elected royal patron and matron o Roxy Ann court. Order of Amaranth, at a re cent meeting. Mr. and Mrs Richard Mayfield were elect ed associate patron and ma tron. Other officers who will serve for the coming year are Fred Purdin, secretary; Lloyd Caton, treasurer; Mrs. Hal Bishop, conductress; Mrs. Lawrence Messal, associate conductress; and Robert Rey nolds, three-year trustee. Pub lic installation of officers will be held April 8 at 8 p.m. in the Masonic temple: Mrs. Bernice Finch, past grand royal matron of Oregon, was honored at the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Thomp son, chairmen of the social hour, served refreshments in the dining room, which was decorated in the St. Patrick's day theme. A large delegation from the court attended the 34th an nual session of the grand court of Amaranth, which was held in Portland. In the delega tion were Jack Kennedy, dep uty supreme royal patron; Charles Hoppe, grand trustee; Mrs. Mar;liall Day, grand rep resentative to British Colum bia; Fred Purdin, grand rep resentative to New Jersey; and Mrs. Hoppe, chairman of the necrology committee of the grand court. Others were Mrs. Frank Sal yerj, royal matron; Marshall Day, royal patron; Mr. and Mrs. Swing, Mr. and Mrs. Mayfield, Mr. and Mrs. Bish op, Mrs. Frank Little, Stanley Jones, Mrs. John White and Mrs. Purdin. The supreme royal matron, Mrs. Annette Frey, Phila delphia, Penn., and the su preme royal patron, Robert Irwin, Miami, Fla., paid their official visit to this "Rose of Peace" session. One of this highlights of the session was presentation of a $1,000 check to Webb Harrington, representative of the potentate of Al Kader tem ple, for the cast fund of the Shrine hospital for crippled children. The presentation has been an annual event since 1945 and the Amaranth of Oregon has contributed about $21,000 to the fund. Mrs. Hoppe served as eulo gist for the meeting, assisted by royal matrons and patrons representing courts through out the stale. Mrs. Salyers was appointed page to the grand marshal and Mr. Day served on the elections committee. Special recognition was giv en Stanley Jones, public rela tions chairman, and Vernon Thompson, historian of the lo cal court, for their contribu tion to the grand court.' Mrs. Harry Alton, and William Reed, both of Portland, were installed as grand royal ma tron and patron of Oregon. Mrs. Day was installed as as aistant grand lecturer and Mrs. Little as grand representative In Oregon to Louisiana. Seven Circles Plan Meetings Seven circles of Women's fellowship, First Baptist church, will all meet Tues day, March 28. Martha circle will meet at the home of Mrs. Larry Adams, 1245 Casino road at 10:30 a.m. and Rebecca circle al the home of the chairman, Mrs. Dora Brantley, 339 Mae street, at the same hour. A meeting of Elizabeth circle is planned for the home of Mrs. i Monroe McGonagle, 1417: Whitman avenue, at 10 a.m. Ruth circle's meeting will: be at the home of Mrs. James, Beams, 2154 Crater Lake ave nue at 10:30 a.m. and mem-j bers are to take scissors and, an offering for Judson college. A meeting of Esther circle j will be held at the home of Mrs. Herman Ekerson, 42 South Groveland avenue, at 10 a.m. and Lois circle will meet with the chairman, Mrs. Miner Boshcars, at her home, 408 South Grape street, at 7:30 p.m. Members are to take scissors. Mrs. Doyle Franklin, 401 King street, will be hostess for a meeting of Lydia circle at 7:30 p.m.; members are to take scissors. Members of Martha. Rebec ca. Elizabeth, Ruth and Esther circles are to take sack lunches. Women's Group Elects Officers Mrs. L. D. Edward is the new president of Scottish Rite Women's club, having been elected at the last meeting. Other new officers are Mis. Morris Boughner, first vice president; Mrs. Rodney Wi tham, second vice president; Mri. William Hatzi. secretary; Mrs. E. P. Stone, treasurer. Installation will be held April 10 at North's Chuck Wagon. The monthly social meeting will be held Monday, March 27, at 8 p.m. at the Masonic temple. May 2 has been set as C day when tome 1200 citizens of the county will call at every home in the county with literature about the control of cancer. Shower Honors Valley Visitor Eagle Point - Miss Shirley Beddingfield was hostess March 18 for a shower honor ing Mrs. Waldo H. Copley, who is visiting in the valley as a guest of her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Cop ley, Agate road. She is also visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Freed, Prospect. Fifteen friends from Med ford, Eagle Point and Prospect attended the shower. Mrs. Copley's husband is an airman, first class, with the United Slates Air Force and is stationed at Harlingen Air Force base, Texas. He is on temporary duty at Lowry Air Force base attending an 18- week school on precision maintenance of test equip ment. Mrs. Copley and small son, Timmy, will spend the summer here. Winners Named For Bridge Play Mrs. J. J. Dougherty and Mrs. Marrs Gibbons led north south players for match points at last week's session of the Camp White Veterans Bridge club. They scored 120 points. Mark Boyden and Irvin Hogan were second with Rogue River PTA Elects Officers Rogue River - Rogue River P a r e n t-Teacher association named Keith Palmerton presi dent at the annual election March 15. Mrs. Max Waile was elected vice-president; Mrs. Claude Marshall, secre tary; and Mrs. Donald Boice, treasurer. They will be in stalled at the April 12 meeting. At regular play March 10 north-south high scorers were Arthur Scarseth and John Solheim, first; Mr. and Mrs. Leland Clark, second; Roy Pruitt, John Shortridge, Mrs. Frank Baker and Walter Humes, tied for third and fourth. East-west high scores went to Mrs. J. J. Finegan and Mrs. Marvin Nelson, first; Mr. and Mrs. Winslow, second; Mrs. Lewis Smith and William Vail, third; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Forncrook, fourth. Yreka Soroptimisis Hear Three Speakers Yreka Yreka Soroptimist club heard Mrs. Ann Worth inglon, president of the Mount Shasta Soroptimist club, speak regarding plans and activities of her club at a recent meeting. Mrs. Mar tha Estebeanez gave an inter esting account of her work as a nurse at the Alemany Emergency hospital In San Francisco. She discussed the benefits extended to residents and tourists of San Francisco by the several emergency hospi tals throughout the city. Robert Davis, president of the Scott Valley Flying serv ice, spoke at one meeting about the activities of the planes that are used to sup press forest fires. Camp Fire Candy Sale Plans Formulated at Recent Meet Soda Springs, June 18 through 25. Girls aged 7 through 18 are eligible. Eagle Point - The Eagle Point Camp Fire Leaders' as sociation met at the home of Mrs. Le Roy Draper March 2 to formulate plans and receive instruction for the annual candy sale of the or ganization which will be held April 5 through 19. Mrs. Elmer llarnish, 302 South B street, will be candy sale chairman for the Eagle Point area, and the candy sup ply depot will be in her home, instruction in safely rules and regulations for the girls while selling, will be sent home with them in pamphlet form before the sale begins. A report on the field trip lo the Elks' sponsored Ken Jensen circus was given by Blue Bird leaders. Through the courtesy of John Johnson of Town and Country Frozen Food Lockers, tickets w ere provided for all Blue Birds in the community. An evaluation of pre-planning for the Golden Jubilee parly was made. Two plan ning meetings had been held; one at the home of Mrs. Wil liam Short on Stevens road and another was hostessed by Meeting Planned By Rose Society Plant diseases and control will be the topic for a meet ing of Mcdford Rose society Monday, March 27, at 7:45 p.m. in the courthouse audi torium. Elton Waldron will conduct a discussion of various rose sprays and demonstrate suit able sprayers in conjunction with a showing of a film on sprays and general rose cul ture. John McLaughlin of the county agent's office will show slides of plant diseases. Clarence Miller, program chairman, announces a plant sale, with Carl Norris serving as auctioneer. This sale will feature all types of plants and is open lo the public Anyone interested in the growing and culture of roses is welcome to attend any regular meeting of the so- ciety. Film Announced Members of First Presbyle rian Church Women's associa tion will meet in Fellowship hall of the church at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, for dessert followed by a pro gram. Music and a film showing the destination of "opportu nity gifts are planned. Mrs. Draper. Mrs. Joseph Shelton was commended for 1 a job well done as general chairman. Inquiries about summer res i d e n t camping have been made by parents, so Mrs. T. II. Gcrety. executive director from Medfnrd, for Rogue Camp Fire Girls Council, gave a report on camping.
