ORE. a r SUNDAY, MARCH 19. 1911 t v An arrangement entitled "After Shakti perean Theater" won firit place in competi tion which wai a part of the annual Calen dar tea of the Rogue Valley Girl Scout council, held Thuriday at the Red Crosa chapter house. The arrangement, entered by 1 Medford Junior service league, and wai of itock and laurel branchei in an antique brass pot, an antique samovar and Spode chaina in the Indian tree pattern. About 150 women attened the tea. Service League Entry Wins Award . An August buffet table arrangement, "After Shake pearean Theatre," entered by Medford Junior Service league, won first place in the second annual Calendar tea given Thursday by Rogue Val ley Girl Scout council. Second place went to the Travel Study club's June entry which displayed a pink and white wedding reception table and third place was won by the Contemporary Book club for its July buffet of red, white and blue. Judges were Mrs. Louis Gentner, Mrs. Richard Mole and Mrs. William Tycer. A public vole on the 12 entries in the lea gave first place to the June arrange ment, second place to an April showers arrangement by the Medford Jayccttes, and third to the January entry for New Year's by Alpha Beta Arnett Family Attends Reunion Central Point-Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Arnett, of Central Point, recently attended a family re union at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Ruby Brad thaw, of Hayfork, Calif. The Jack Bezoff family, of Central Point, and Mrs. Emma Harrison, of Salinas, Calif., accompanied 'the Arnetts. Thirty of the Arnotts sons, daughters and grandchildren attended the reunion. chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. An estimated 150 women attended the event. Mrs. Ray mond Retcr was in charge, assisted by Mrs. II. E. Nulton and Mrs. Ida Wharton. Daffo dil arrangements in the rooms were planned by Mrs. G. W. Phetteplace. Others assisting were the Mesdames L. W. Pritchard, Scott V, Davis, Judson Comp ton, Jerry Gaslineau, B. E. Culy, Thomas Eslinger, M. N. Hogan, J. A. Carrara, George Davy, W, E. Acord and Wil liam Thompson. Pouring were Mrs. Eugene Ray and Mrs. Lawrence Buonocore, Kiwanian Dames; Mrs. L. C. Gordon and Mrs. Wallace West, Central Point Garden club; Mrs. John Sni der and Mrs. L. L. Jientz, Catholic Daughters of Amer ica; Mrs. Vcrta Thompson and Rights Council Books Professor Joel Berreman, professor of sociology at the University of Oregon, will speak Wednes day, March 22, at the meeting of the local Human Rights council. The meeting will be held in the Youth chapel of First Presbyterian church starting at 8 p.m. Mr. Berreman is a member of the commission on civil rights, Washington, D. C. Mrs. Lloyd Harris, Shady Cove Garden club. Mrs. Robert Kagy and Mrs. Raymond Miksche, Contemp orary Book club; Miss Mary Aldrich and Miss Florence Medford, Ashland Garden club; Mrs. Charles Stearns and Mrs. Dayton Depue, Med ford Garden club; Mrs. Charles E. German Bride Honored Guest Ashland-Honored guest at a shower given by Mary Bill ings circle of the First Meth odist church at the home of Mrs. Ben Willard, 1B0 Church St., was Mrs. Norval Holme, a recent bride. Not only Is Mrs. Holme a bride hut she is a newcomer to America, having arrived only Inst month from Ger many. Although she is unac quainted with the language Mrs. Helme was able to show pictures of her homeland and through an interpeter describe many of its customs. Mr. and Mrs. Helme are making their home in the Wil lard apartment, lOO'i Church St. PTA Council Announces New Officers Mrs. Emerson T. Anderson was elected president of the Medford Coordinating Coun cil of Parent-Teacher associ ations at the last meeting held at Jackson school. ' Other new officers arc Mrs. Alva A. Wright, vice-president; Mrs. Glenn Stewart, secretary; Arthur Iverson, treasurer. Jim McDonald, director of the curriculum material cen ter for Jackson county schools was speaker. He explained the benefits of using audiovisual aids In the classrooms. Mrs. Myrna Frink, princi pal of Griffin Creek school, reported on a visit to the leg islature by several PTA mem bers. Refreshments were served by members of Jackson Parent-Teacher association; tables were decorated with sham rocks, Irish potatoes and "the writings of the wee folk." Forty-two members and guests made this meeting the largest of the year for the council. The next meeting will be at Ruch school in April. Ashland Garden Club Awards Camperships Ashland - Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Girls will both be recipients of camperships giv en by the Ashland Garden club. The action was taken during a business session of tlie club conducted by the president, Mrs. Clarence Malhes. The day's program included a talk on "Perennials for Pleasure" by Mrs. Richard Westerficld and a flower ar- ranging demonstration by Mrs. E. A. Bay, who chose ver satile greenery as appropri ate to the season. Jonquils centered the lea table where refreshments were served by the Mesdames Jason Otlingcr, Walter Red ford, W. S. Stcnnetl, Et na Sni der and C. H. Pendleton. A border of shamrocks furnish ed the Irish theme.
