MARCH 12, 1961 c 3 Miss Janei De Korie Ashland Couple Engaged To Wed Ashland-Mr. and Mrs. Bert De Korte, 180 East Ashland lane, have announced the en gagement of their daughter, Janet, to Gordon K. Oeser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Oeser, 55 Granite street, Ash land. Miss De Korte is a senior at Ashland High school and her fiance, who also attended Ash land High school, is manager of Gordon's Service station, Ashland. A late summer wedding is planned. Donald Shores To Be Honored Jacksonville - Adarel chap ter, Order of Eastern Star, will honor Donald Shores at a reception Thursday, March 16. Friendship night will be observed at the same time. Mr. Shores is a member of the endowment fund of the grand chapter of Oregor and is junior past patron of the chapter. Members of southern Ore gon Eastern Star chapters have been invited to the event, which will begin at 8 p.m. in the Masonic temple. A potluck dinner at 6:30 o'clock will precede the reception. On the committee in charge are Mr. and Mrs. George Red head, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Lu man and Mrs. Minnie Offen bacher. A style review will high- ngnt the event. Prospective member at tending for the first time was Mrs. Robert Moss. Mrs. H. L. Swenson, River Falls, Wise, was a guest. St. Patrick's day theme was used for the dessert table. Green carnations and white stock formed an arrangement for the centerpiece. Other ar rangements were also in the clubroom. Mrs. Ethan Fordyee, Mrs. Grace Todd and Mrs. Carrie Walters were hostesses for the afternoon. Following the business meeting cards were played. Prizes for pinochle went to Mrs. Myrtle Bartrum and Mrs. Lora Stewart; canasta to Mrs. Art Reisch and Mrs. Ethan Fordyee and bridge to Mrs. Ella Torgerson and Mrs. C. R. Davidson. Mrs. A d e 1 e Purgason re ceived a special award. The next meeting of the club will be March 23 at 12:30 p.m. at the Girls Community club. The club invites all women who have lived in Medford or vicinity less than two years to attend and become mem bers. 1 Luncheon Planned By Social Club Members of Reames Social' club who have birthdays in January, February or March will be honored at the month ly luncheon at 12 noon Wednesday, March 15 at the Medford Masonic temple. Also honored will be the past ma trons of Nevita chapter. Order of Eastern Star, Central Point. A short business meeting will be held after the lunch eon, and cards will follow. Mrs. H. J. Mr. Green, also a graduate of Medford High school, is en rolled in Idaho State college, Pocatello, where he is major ing in foreign trade. A June wedding is planned. Chairman To Speak Milton D. Goldsmith, Port land, chairman of the state civil rights advisory commit tee, will be the main speaker at a meeting of the local Hu man Rights council March 22. A panel discussion will be presented by local board mem bers, who will answer ques tions concerning work of the council in Medford. Vacancies on the board will be filled. All persons interest ed in the organization are in vited to attend the meeting, which will begin at 8 p.m. in the Youth chapel of First Presbyterian church. Medford Woman Speaking Today In Grants Pass Mrs. Elmer Ness, winner of the Medford Toastmistress speech contest, will represent the club at the council con test in Grants Pass today. Mrs. Ness was chosen winner of the Medford area at a con test March 7 in the Service center. She spoke on "The Mi grants," which told of Irish men who migrated to America. Mrs. Arnold Bohnert was toastmistress for the evening. Mrs. C. Wilson was chosen al ternate speaker and also plac ing were Mrs. Roy Rolls and Mrs. Bcrnice Kunzman. Judges were the Rev. Escil Heiser, Mrs. E. A. Faber, Mrs. A. Foster and Dale Harrell. Mrs. Ethel Mclntyre was pro gram evaluator and Mrs. Amy True, grammarian. Guests were Mrs. A. L. W. Medcalf, Medford. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Gladys L. Cole, 115 Gibson street, Tal ent, and the bridegroom's par ents are Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Medcalf,, 103 South Orange street. The bride's brother, Robert Johnson, U. S. Navy, gave her in marriage. She wore a street-length dress of white lace over satin and a fingertip-length veil. She carried a white Bible with a bouquet of white carnations, pink sweet peas and orange blossoms with a white orchid. Mrs. Johnston was attend ant for her sister-in-law. She wore a printed frock with white accessories. A reception for the newly weds followed at their apart ment in Carlsbad. The bride attended Talent High school and the bridegroom was a stu dent in Medford High school before entering the Marine corps. He is stationed at Camp Pendleton. J I L. W. Medcalf Welcome Club Presents Show; Dinner Planned About 70 attended the an nual Welcome Wagon club Spring Style show held re cently at the Girls Commun ity club. The clothing furnished by Parker Woods Leon was mod eled by Miss Pam Trowbridge, Miss Jean Wood, Miss Bar bara Woods, and Welcome Wagon club members. Indi vidual hair styles were done by the De Na Beauty salon. John Lusk furnished music and Mrs. Horace McElralh served as commentator, Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Donald Grosch, Mrs. Gary King, Mrs. Robert Moss, Mrs. John Shea, Mrs. Charles Swenson, Mrs. Roy Edfast and Mrs. Fred Holmes. Mrs. Roy V. Nordwick, wo'thy matron, and E. G. Randolph, worthy patron, presided and wel comed the guests. Among the visitors were members of the grand chap ter, W. Morris Boughner, worthy grand patron and Mrs. Boughner, grand Electra, Med ford. The past grand officers were represented by Miss Car lotta K. Wiseman, Grants Pass, past grand matron. Also in attendance were grand committee members, Mrs. Earl Wiley, Hoscburg and Donald Shores, Jacksonville, both members of the endow ment fund committee. Grand representatives present were Mrs. A. Three musical selections were presented by a group of girls and boys from Hedrick Junior High school, under the direction of their instructor, Ronald Bartlett. A skit fol lowed, presented by Mrs. F. S. Nulton, Mrs. George Bur rell and V. A. Thompson, un der the direction of Mrs. H. F. Nordwick, program chair man. Refreshments were served in (lie dining room. The star shaped table was decorated with pink stock and carna tions and pink candles in crys tal holders. Individual violet plants were placed at each ta ble setting for guests and members present to take home with them as a gesture of friendship from the worthy matron. The lodge room was decorated with silver and pink fans, tall baskets of pink stock and carnations, backed by white candelabra. Mrs. E. G. Randolph and Mrs. Carmine Gigliotti, in charge of the decorations and Elected Medford Women of Rotary elected officers at a meeting March 8. Mrs. Otto Ewaldsen was named president. Other officers are Mrs. Charles Gustafson, vice-president; Mrs. Philip Gates, secre tary; Mrs. William Seibert, treasurer. refreshments for the event, were assisted by a committee of members.
