6 C Professor To Speak For Groups Dr. Frank Munk, professor o political science at Reed college, Portland, will speak on "Behind and Beyond the Iron Curtain" at the Thur day dinner meeting of the Rogue River Valley Knife and Fork club. Reservations for the event will be accepted through Mon. day by Mrs. Richard House, 15 Corning court. The dinner will begin at 6:45 p.m. at the Rogue Valley Country club. Dr. Munk returned to Reed college in 1946, having pre viously taught at the college from 1939-1941. Ho has been a research fellow of the Rock efellcr foundation at Harvard, Columbia and Brookings In stitute. From 1941-1944 he was on the laculty of the Uni versity of California, and from 1944 until his return to Reed, he was director of train ing of the UN Relief and Re habilitation administration. A native of Czechoslovakia, he attended the University of Prague where he received his doctorate degree. Under his leadership the World Affairs Council of Ore gon pioneered the Great De cisions program which won it the first national community award from the Foreign Pol icy association for the most significant contribution to cit izen understanding of world affairs. He is author of "The Econ omics of Force" and "The Leg acy of Nazism." A trustee and former president of the World Affairs Council of Oregon, Dr. Munk is dean of the North west Institute of International Relations. He is a member of the steering committee of the At lantic Institute, Brussels, and of the Institute of Strategic Studies, London. He was vis iting professor at the Univer sity of Washington, governor of the Portland City club and contributing editor of the Ore gon Journal. At noon Dr. Munk will talk for a luncheon meeting of Medford League of Women Voters at tile Jackson hotel. The meal will be served at 12 o'clock. His topic will be "The Fu ture of the Dollar" and any one interested Is invited to attend. Reservations are to be made with Mrs. Richard Schwan, SPring 2-8825. Those unable to attend the luncheon are welcome to come to hear Dr. Munk speak. Past Matron! Club Announces Session Remiios Past Matrons club will meet at the home of Mrs. H. F. SUNDAY, MARCH 5, 1961 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, ORE Dr. Frank Munk Clerks Hold District Meet Here A business meeting and ban quet were held here last week end by the southern Oregon district of the National Fede ration of Post Office Clerks. Host group was Medford Lo cal 342 of which Gerald Har per is president. Robert Newton, Cave Junc tion, district vice-president, conducted the business ses sions, held at the Jackson hotel. Speakers for a banquet in the evening were John Hovey, Eugene, state president; James G. Morris; Portland, national state representative, and Clar ence Uhristcnsen Portland, another national representative. Forty-five attended the ban quet. This district is compos ed of Klamath Falls, Ashland, Medford, Grants Pass and oth er smaller post offices. The clerks were assisted in giving the banquet by mem bers of the auxiliary to Local 342, and plans were made at the February meeting, held at the home of Mrs, Roland Ho ver. The auxiliary women also sponsored a coffee hour. At the meetihg, Mrs. r.ill Mcrritt, Mrs. Hover and Mrs. Donuld Gray were appointed to decorate the banquet tables. The annual fund-raising project will be held in April. Funds raised will finance the churitable and social activities of the auxiliary. Mrs. Gray, secretary, pre sented Mrs. Claude Allen, re tiring president, a past presi dent's pin and a gift from the auxiliary. Bethel's Birthday The meeting was in observ ance of the bethel's 27th birth day. A report of its history was given by Miss Barbara Jacobson, librarian, who told of its beginning March 1, 1934 with the chartering occurring on October 15 with 48 charter members. The bethel voted to make a gift toward purchase of new davenports for the Masonic Home in Forest Grove. Miss Penny Forbes was awarded her proficiency cer tificate by Queen Barbara. Other awards announced in cluded one year merit awards to the Misses Vanita Burch, Terry Sue Crovette, Linda Graham, Kathy Smith, Linda Jo Fredricks, Kathy Sand born, Gai Voight, Diane Car michle, Luella Stinson, Diane Rupert, Penny Roach, Judy Johnson, Cheryl Converse, Clarrisa Hogue and Janet Shcrrill. The Misses Pauletle Chinn, Louise Hoover, Carol Wood and Sue Sneed have earned second year awards and Miss Pat Ellis, the third year award. Miss Diane Ev ernham, senior princess, has earned her 1,000 point. Job's ring. Preceding the meeting, a dinner was held at North's Chuck Wagon in honor of Mrs. Nelson and Mr. Manning. Following the ceremonies, the bethel presented the two hon ored guests with autograph hounds. Mrs. Nelson presented Queen Barbara a China cornu copia. The next meeting will be March 15 and will be the beth el's friendship night. Gold Star Mothers To Be Entertained Medford chapter of the Gold Star Mothers will De guest of the Navy Mothers at a potluck luncheon Tuesday, March 7, at the Girls Community club at 12 noon. A short business mceling will follow. Plans will be made for the food sale to be held at the Home Appliance store on March 18 and the rummage sale to be held at the Fehl building on March 21. Dinner Plans Made at Meet Old Hill - Plans for the annual dinner party of Amu thyst Rebekah Friendship club were made during the Febru ary meeting of the group at the home of Mrs. Donald Mor row, vice president. Mrs. De los Walker, newly elected president, conducted the busi ness session. The club's social is slated for Monday, March 20, at a Medford restaurant.
