Hundreds Attend Shrine Ball Largest tocial event of late Recorder Frank Barnthouse winter was the annual Poten tale's ball given February 25 at the Medford armory by Hil lah temple of the AAONMS, widely known as the Shrine. The event honored Illustrious Potentate Jorgen E. Jorgen sen and Mrs. Jorgensen, 1013 Hlllcrest road, Medford. Several hundred Shriners and their wives from six west ern states attended the ball and a large number were present for a breakfast Sun day morning at Rogue Valley Country Club. For the ball Mrs. Jorgensen wore a gown of white satin and gold and her flowers were a crescent-shaped bou quet of gold colored rosebuds. Her evening wrap was of white fur. Potentate and Mrs. Jorgensen were introduced and escorted through the pa trol lines at nine o'clock and atood in the center of al large blue heart to greet the re maindcr of the honored Guests. Mm. Mrs. Raymond Reter assisted temple members with decora tions, which included a blue and white canopy suspended from the armory ceiling. Sup per was served later in the evening from tables decorated with large bouquets of red tulips, yellow daffodils and other spring flowers. Miss Rukovina, James Anderson Set Wedding Day Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Rukovina, 235 South Oakdale avenue, announce the ap proaching marriage of their daughter, Cynthia Anne, to James Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Anderson, Klamath Falls. The wedding will be held March 25 in the Eugene Memorial Chapel. Miss Rukovina attended Medford public schools and will graduate from the Uni versity of Oregon school 'of journalism in March, Mr. Anderson was grad uated from Klamath Falls Union High school In 1953, was in the United States Ma rine corps for three yean, and is a senior in the univer sity business administration school. Couple To Wed In California Central Point - The mar riage of Mrs. Julie Tummera to Patrick Dalloy of San Ra fael, Calif., has been set for March 14 in San Rafael. The ceremony will take place In the patio of La Petite Au bergc. Mrs. Tummera' son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Pacey, Novalo, Calif., will attend the 'couple. Mrs. Tummers Is owner of Mon Desir inn, nationally known dining establishment, and Mr. Dailey is vice presi dent and business agent for the Culinary union of Marin county, California. The couple plans a week's wedding trip in California. Central Point - A wedding of interest to valley residents was held in Lakeview when Miss Juanita Catherine Per ry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard R. Perry, Halfway, Ore., became the bride of Bruce W. Field, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Field, Seven Oaks road, Central Point. The Rev. Wendell Herbison officiated at the seven o'clock evening rites held February 10 at the Herbison home. Bas kets of pink roses and white chrysanthemums decorated the rooms for the double ring ceremony. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white lace. Her fingertip length veil was held by a seed pearl tiara and she carried a white orchid and carnations on a white Bible. Miss Edith Perry attended her sister. She wore a pale pink brocade frock and match ing accessories. Her flowers were white and pink carna tions. Norman Jacobs, Merrill, brother-in-law of the bride groom, served as best man. Mrs. Harvey Field Jr., Cen tral Point, cousin of the bride groom, played the organ wed ding music and accompanied Mr. Field, soloist. For her daughter's wedding and reception which followed Mrs. Perry chose a beige lace dress with matching accessor ies. Mrs. Fields wore a green two piece dress with match ing accessories. At the reception Mrs. Nor ma Blalock, cut and served the wedding cake and Miss Doris Herbison and Miss Bon nie Lindsey poured. Mrs. Car olyn Hunt, Roseburg, aunt of the bride, was in charge of the guest book, and Miss Bon nie Lindsey and Miss Beverly Hendricks were at the gift ta ble. For traveling the bride wore a beige dress and coat with brown accessories and the or chid from her bridal bouquet. The bride attended Halfway High school; Boise, Idaho, Bi ble college, and Southern Ore gon college, Ashland. The bridegroom attended Crater High school and was gradu ated from the University of Oregon. They are both teach ers at Union Grade school in Lakeview. The couple is at home in Lakeview. Among the out of town guests attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Field, Central Point, parents of the bridegroom; Mrs. Jac obs, Merrill, sister of the bridegroom; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Perry, Halfway, par ents of the bride; Daniel J. Harold Fryes Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Harold A. Frye celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Febru ary 27 at their home, 803 West Second street. They were married in Galina, Iowa, in 1911 and lived in Dubuque for some time. Mr. Frye served on the Medford City council for 16 yean and was city parks chairman at the time Haw thorne park and swimming pool were constructed. He was also on the airport committee and has assisted in many oth er civic projects. Before the couple moved to Australia, Mrs. Frye was active church work and sang at community functions. Mr. Frye came to America from England in 1008 and be came a United States citizen. He worked In Idaho for some time and met Mrs. Frye, the former Luella May McDon ough, while visiting friends in Dubuque. Later they sold their company to a larg er firm in Melbourne and the Fryes and their two children eventually returned to this country, deciding to settle in Medford because of accounts of this area from Mrs. Frye's brother and sister-in-law, the late Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Mc Donough. Mr. Frye worked for the late Mr. and Mrs. James Grieves at the Prospect resort before becoming owner of the Summit grocery Jan. 1, 1934. He operated the grocery un til his retirement two years ago, when his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Horase "Skeets" Knight, assumed management. The couple's son, Harold Jr., lives at 803 West Second street, and their daughter, Mrs. H. F. Knight, at 452 Fair mount street. Their grandchil dren are Walter and LeRoy Knight. Walter, a former student at Lewis and Clark college. Port land, is now in Paris, France, where he is a student at the Sorbonne and is studying dress designing. He previously studied at Montpelier univer sity, also In France. Mrs. Knight returned re cently from a trip to visit her son in Paris and also her father's relatives In London. To Sing Here On the music calendar for this week Is a concert to be given Friday, March 10, by the Lewis and Clark college choir at First Presbyterian church, Medford. at 8 p.m. L. Stanley Glarum is di rector of the choir. The concert will be open to the public; no admittance will be charged but an ottering will be taken. Pauline Denyer Students Plan Summer Rites Mr. and Mrs. Russell H Denyer, 19 Ross court, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Pauline, to John C. Flanagan, son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Flanagan, Ehrman road, Medford. Miss Denyer Is a 1960 grad uate of Medford High school and is a freshman at Oregon State college. She lives at Azalea house. Her fiance, 1959 graduate of Medford High school, is a sophomore at the same college. A summer wedding planned. Delta Gammas Plan Banquet The founder's day banquet of Rogue Valley Delta Gam ma Alumnae association will be he'd at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the home of Mrs. John Cotton, Ashland. Mrs. Kenneth Bartlett, Ash land, and Mrs. Charles Mar tin, Eagle Point, are co-chair men for the banquet. Mrs. Cotton and Miss Marian Ady, Ashland, are co-chairmen of the serving committee, Mrs. Martin will speak con cerning the Delta Gamma all- state founder's day observance in Salem which she and Mrs. T. J. Tinsley attended. Mrs. Tinsley also plans to attend the annual conference of prov ince 15 in Vancouver, B. C, March 24. Shield-Brown Wedding Held Ashland-Mrs. Cloma Brown, formerly of Ashland, was at tended by her two daughters and their husbands when she was married February 1 to Charles Shield of Eugene. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Land ing of Medford and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Williams of Eugene took part in the ceremony performed by the Rev, Ross Knotts in the Fireside room of the Springfield Methodist church. The Rev. Mr. Knotts was pastor of the Ashland Metho dist church for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Shield will make their home in Eugene following their return from a wedding trip to southern Cal ifornia. March Wedding Set for Couple The approaching marriage of Miss Myrna Kae Thornton and Denis Glen Hagler has been announced by her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd A. Thornton, 2392 Thorn Oak drive, Medford. His mother is Mrs. Rena Hagler, West Tenth street. The wedding is planned for March 18 at 7:30 o'clock in the evening at First Assembly of God church; Medford. The bride -elect attended Medford High school. Mr. Hag ler. was graduated from Phoe nix High school and it em ployed by Jackson county In the dog control department. Linda Slessler Is Representative Miss Linda Slessler, Med ford, a freshman at the Uni versity of Oregon, Eugene, has been elected junior Panhel lenic representative to the Panhellenic council at the university. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma so rority and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Slessler, 848 West 13th street. Panhellenic is the coordi nating council for sororities on campus. Ashland - James Busch. senior at Willamette univer sity, has been named ROTC cadet operations officer for spring term. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Busch, Ridge road. Newly weds Now at Home; Bride Honored at Parties Applegate Valley-Mr. and Mrs. Ernest R. Kennedy Jr., whose wedding took place re cently in Reno, Nev., are making their home at 3088 Old Stage road. Central Point. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen W. Smith, Ruch, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest R. Kennedy, 113 Valley View drive, Medford. The bride's maternal grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Peebler, Phoenix, Ore. The wedding took place February 11, with the Rev. Richard A. Kissee perform ing the ceremony at 4:30 o'clock in the afternoon at the Methodist church. Mrs. Bruce Turner, Central Point, was matron-of-honor, and Dr. Turner was best man. The ' bride wore a white wool suit with light blue ac cessories. Her pale blue hat was designed and made by her mother. Mr. and Mrs. H. Gordon Smith of Medford also attend ed the -wedding. Mrs. Kennedy attended Jacksonville High school, and is employed with Roberts, Kellington, Branchfield, and Heffernan as a legal stenog rapher. Mr. Kennedy is a graduate of Oregon State col lege School of Pharmacy, and is a pharmacist at Hudson's Pharmacy, Central Point. Since the wedding Mrs. Kennedy has been honored with two bridal showers. One was given at Rogue Valley Willits-Byrd Wedding Held Ashland - In the presence of their immediate families Miss Julia Loree Byrd and William Clark Willits Jr. were married February 22 by Justice of the Peace Frances Gallatin. The single ring ceremony was performed at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen R. Byrd, 782 Park street. Parents of the bride groom are Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam C. Willits, 124 Nob Hill street. The wedding was held in front of a studio window banked with white chrysan themums, snapdragons and red carnations. Atle n d a n t were Miss Joan Byrd, the bride's sister, and Frank Wil lits, brother of the bride groom. A reception followed, at tended by more than 25 friends. After a short honeymoon to the Bay area, Mr. and Mrs. Willits returned to Ashland to resume their studies at Ash land High school where both are seniors. Visitors Return To California Mrs. William F. Perl and small son, William Frank III, have returned to their home in California after a visit here with Mrs. Perl's mother, Mrs. Barbara Ripfl, 1123 Dakota avenue, and her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Perl, 220 King street. Country club by Mrs. Dorris Reed, Grants Pass. Mrs. Wil liam Miller, Medford assisted the hostess. Mrs. Edward Branchfield and Mrs. William Kennedy, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, poured. Decora tions were in pink and silver with pink and white carna tions about the room. Tables were centered with white wedding bells and fans and butterflies in pink and silver. About 40 guests attended. Mrs. Bruce Matheny, Mrs. Chester McDonough and Mrs. Paul McBeth were hostesses at another shower at the home of Mrs. Glenn Smith. Return Ashland - Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Burgess, 40 Bush street, have returned from a motor trip to Duart?, Calif., where they visited for several-veeks with their son Ralph Burgess Jr; and family.
