SENTENCED TO DIE Los Angelcs-IUPD - Triple slayer Henry Adolph Busch, 29, showed no emotion Tues day when Judge Edwin L. Jefferson formally sentenced him to die in the California gas chamber. Busch was con victed of the first degree slay ing of his aunt, Mrs. Marga ret Briggs. 53, and the second degree murder of Mrs. Shirley Payne, 52, and Mrs. Elmyra Miller, 72, all last summer. But there's a third narlv who wants to share the ex citement with UK pvprv slrm of the way. This is Toni's aunt, wno jusi iook an apartment in the building opposite ours. You'd think she was having this child, the way she's read ing up on pregnancy and keeping up a blow-bv-blow in vestigation. I know Aunt Lottie has al ways felt particularly close 10 loni, wnose mother is dead. But there comes a timis ulmn she must, look on and just love Toni at a distance. I want hel lo slow up in her interest and enthusiasm. She must rpmnmhpr flint it's our home and our baby. She'll be its Great-Aunt, not its midwife or proxy-mother! Antoinette B. Bnnausp mv mother was the oldest and Aunt Lottie the vnnntrpst nf their big family, my aunt and i are oiny ten years apart in age. She's always been more like an admirine bin- sisfpr in me, than a stiff aunt. Before I wa ninrpiprt ,o shared a small apartment. It was natural for her to want to stay near me, so she found rooms across the street. I un derstand her elation about mv condition, and I wish Tom didn't resent it as an intru sion upon our privacy. In a way, Aunt Lottie iden tifies herself with me. And since she will never experi ence childbirth herself, she's satisfied to have the next best thing - a share of my sensa tions during the process. It's an exciting, wondrous peri od, and I'm amazed myself at the miracle of It all. I'm glad to be able to impart some of this awe to Aunt Lottie. Th Council! As long as it's only the "awe" and not the details of their private life that Antoinette imparts, Tom hasn't much of a case. If this is as close as a devoted aunt will ever get to hearing the subjective story of How a Ba by Is Born, Tom should be proud to be co-author of the confidential expose. We must assume that Toni is circumspect In her revela tions, and that Aunt Lottie's curiosity, is not morbid but wholesome and .legitimate. Then Tom's objections reveal two natural fears: the Inva sion of his home by a close (in all senses) relative, and Aunt Lottie's over-involvment in the life of the expected baby. Toni can allay these fears. Aunt Lottie seems sensible and sensitive enough to re spect the sanctity of the new little family, and Toni can "arrange" visitnig hours so us not to Impinge on Tom's plans and wishes. Also, once the baby arrives, Aunt Lottie's role becomes analagous to that of a good grandmother i.e., mother's helper, friend or fan, but not usurper! Toni can assure Tom of that. Our word to Tom, then, is relax. In your great joy, you're in danger of becoming over-possessive, fearing that it may vanish. But in taking Aunt Lottie along as a hitch hiker on this side-trip she missed, you're giving her -to paraphrase Shakespeare . -"that which not subtracts from you, and makes her rich Indeed." Postman Dismissed From Jury Duty Providence, R.I. - (UPD - A man was excused from jury service In a criminal case in U.S. District Court when his theory didn't agree with the court's. Judge Edward W. Day ask ed Roland J. Levesque, West Warwick, R.I., if he believed the defendants in the case had to prove their innocence. "Yes," replied Levesque. Judge Day asked if Leves que meant that. "I was in the service," Levesque said, "and you were guilty until proven innocent." "Well, it's not so in the courts," Judge Day said when the laughing subsided, "and I don't believe it's so in the service. I'm going to excuse you."
