Speaks Respectfully Castro spoke respectfully of Kennedy, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Adlai E. Stevenson and Undersecretary of State Chester Bowles. "Why if they had the cour age to defy vested interests by enacting important inno vations in foreign policy, such as inviting the Soviet Union to participate in an economic aid program for underdevel oped nations, have they not had the courage to change to ward Cuba?" Castro asked. No Personal Attacks Castro said he did not In tend again to revert to per sonal attacks on U.S. leaders which have characterized pre vious speeches. But he em phatically and repeatedly in sisted that the eventual re establlshment of peaceful re lations between Havana and Washington must be condition ed on cessation of what he described as U.S. air drops of arms to the foes of his regime within Cuba. The premier alleged that such air drops had been or ganized by the "Pentagon" and "Central Intelligence Agency. He said he was con- vincodlhey were part of what he described as a systematic campaign to overthrow his regime. Dr. Haines Speaks At Chico, Calif. Ashland-Dr. Frank Haines, associate professor of social science at Southern Oregon college and a member of the board of directors for the Ore gon Shakespearian Festival, spoke at the Chico chapter of the American Association of University Women recently at Chico, Calif. The title of his speech was "Our ; Neo-Medieval Author," According to Dr. Haines, the United States today is return ing to many, of the ideas and ideals of the middle ages. . He also stated that the art is Is and writers of today are expressing themselves in sim ilar terms.
