Her zog, announced that Miss Joan McCready will leave the em ployment of the Domiciliary. Leaving here Feb. 15 for Washington, D.C, she will re ceive four weeks training for work with the state depart ment. She will then depart for Ascunsion, Paraguay, a city of over 200,000. On her arrival she will be assigned to the American Embassy as a secretary, and will be there for two years. For seven years as secretary to F. J. Glonning, adminislra five assistant (CMO), she had been a dedicated government employee working in special Credit Union Group Hears Dr. Anderson Some 163 members of the Jackson County Federal Em ployees Federal Credit Union heard Dr. E. Dean Anderson, executive assistant to the pres ident at Portland State col lege, discuss the future of credit unions at their annual meeting here last week. Donald Pulley of the Veter ans Domiciliary, White City, was elected to the board of di rectors, and Richard E. Schulz. also of the Dimlciliary, was reelected to the credit com mittce. Credit Union officers for 1961 include Sidney W. Ross, president; Lauren L. Dover, vice president; Millicent Pcst- ka, treasurer; Donna J. Mil lard, secretary. Others elected to the board are John J. Her chief duties have been working with the volun teer services, recreation, and library which has required skill, poise, tact, and enthus iasm. Expresses Regret Glonning expressed his re gret at her departure, and said, "She will be missed at this domiciliary by everyone, including volunteer workers. and the entire personnel wishes Miss McCready the greatest of success in her new position with the stale depart ment." She belongs to the Citv Bowling association -and bowls several ninlils a week. She also likes swimming and outdoor sports, and has water skiied a little bit. she said In Ascunsion. located on a big-river port - the Paraguay river - there are boating and regattas. The national lan guage, where her new duties begin, is Spanish, although Guarinl is the ancient tribal language, spoken by' the mass es of Paraguay. Looks Forward to Job Miss McCready looks for ward to her new assignment wun a great deal of enthus iasm. She considers workine with the slate department in teresting, educational and worthwhile. From Ascunsion, sue can travel to Buenos Aires and Rio de Janiero, and other South American points ot interest. Single, she has two brothers and their families who live In Oregon. One brolher is ir Hawaii. Her parents, and olh or brothers and sisters, live mostly In Montana. "Joan," as she is known to many hundreds ot the mem bers of the Domiciliary, went to school in Ronan, Mont., in Flathead valley. She first on tercd service in Roseburg at mo Veterans hospital in 11)52 She came to White City in 1053, where she began as secretary to Glonning. In Close Contact Her duties as his sccrelary brought her in close contact with the volunteers, and made her a prominent figure at the VAVS meetings. "She took the notes for the VAVS, and was a part of It Assistant Manager Banks Paul staled. I'll miss my friends and associalcs in While City and Mcdford, and will think of them often," Miss McCready said. She drives a small Volks- wagon, and the stale depart ment has arranged to ship it to Ascunsion, approximately (1,000 miles from White City, to the capltol of Paraguay. The liltle car will come in real handy, where the roads are often narrow and different from ours, she commented. Aside from the prospect of her duties at Ihe American Embassy, she was clearly thrilled, and anxious to see and learn the manners and customs of the people where her new work will be. Para guay Is an agricultural coun try, she said, with many cat tle ranches and native women who smoke cigars and have their liltle donkeys, they lead, and carry articles on their heads, instead of their hands. Culinary Cuties The Applegate Culinary Cuties 4-H club met recently at the school cafeteria. Thir teen members and two leaders i were present. One visitor was! present, Mrs. Henry Head. A demonstration of Baking Powder Biscuits" was given by Sharon Prowell and Susan Head, and a demonstration on cocoa making was given by Nancy Head and Connie Bur- rell. The meeting was adjourned, and refreshmenls were served followed by games led by Alicia Elmore. Beth Krouse, Reporter Forestry Squirrels The January meeting of the Elk-Trail Forestry Squirrels 4-H club was held at the home of Dick and Billy Eastman. The roll call was called, and each member had to say the 4-H pledge. Margaret Hanson showed us how to mount and press speci mcnls of trees and shrubs. After the meeting, Mrs. East- man served refreshments. After the meeting, Alice Woolfolk, junior leader, and Mrs. Willard Walch, leader, showed the members how to make "Buddy Burners." After the demonstration each mem ber made one. A Buddy Burner is a type of stove, like a candle. Mark Flint, Reporter Smart Cookies At a recent meeting we chose the name for our club the Smart Cookies 4-H club, which was suggested by Ka ryn Ricks. Karyn also lead us in the games. We decided that we would give Valentines to one anoth er and have a Valentine parly. . We also decided to buy our j club flag and American flag, i We have two new members, Gordon Bratten and Dawn Whipple. Truly, demonstrated how to do the first steps in making our Bar-B-Q place mats. Since last month wo have had three new girls join the club and since our mothers havcn'l mcl we decided to! give Ihem a lea or luncheon.
