Tlie club members discussed the Valentine's party that is to be Feb. 11 at Jennifer Nevin's home. Committees were appointed to take care of the menu, dec orations, invitations, and games. The menu committee consists of Grelchen Ouslor- hout, Lola Ackerman, Alice Wolfolk: and Georgia Hub bard. Jennifer Nevin, Elaine Meyer, Donna Nevin and Don na Gcren are on the decora tions committee. Karen Jossey will lake care of the invitations and Diane Barton, Judy Hill and Chloe Atkinson will take care of the games. The club received a letter from the Camp White Domiciliary thanking the club for the table clothes and cur tains, cookies and candy the club sent to the men. On Jan. 28, there will be a bread training meeting for the girls that are in dinner club. This will be held at Paillette Anderson's home. After the cooking meeting, Georgia Hubbard gave a dem onstration on making quick breads. In sewing, Mrs. Anderson brought up that 4-H club week .would be In March. Grctchen Oustcrhout, Karen Jossy, Diane Barton and Judy Hill are on the committee to get a window for the 4-H window display. Diane Barton will give a demonstration on how to put in a zipper at the next meet ing. Gloria Meyer and Liz Flint gave a demonstration on the care of hands. Mary Ellen Wallace will lead the pledge at the next meeting Feb. 11 at Jennifer Nevin's. Elaine Meyer, Reporter The Smart Cookies A new 4-H cooking club was organized at the home of Mrs. Darline Florey re cently with the assistance of Mrs. La Velle Ricks. Our members are Teresa Barnard, Vickl Bartley, Sue Liscnbee, John Gilliam, Janet FuccI, Karyn Ricks, Roxanne Whipple and Myrna Young. We elected officers, who are Sue Liscnbee, president; Myrna Young, vice president; Roxanne Whipple, secretary treasurer; Jane Pucci, report er; Vickl Bartley, song leader; Karyn Ricks, game leader; and Teresa Barnard, refresh ment chairman. The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served by Cathy and Tracy Legler. We discussed what we would like to do at' the pot luck dinner in April. Clay Brion is the leader and the junior leader is Mike Elmore. The officers are Terry Miller, president; Gary Bohanon, vice president; Vir gil Prowl, secretary; Bob Hill, treasurer; and Brian Miller, reporter. Jacksonville Beef The January meeting of the Jacksonville Beef 4-H club was called to order by Pat Neil, president. We discussed our plans for our club project. Jacksonville Goody Cookers The January meeting of the Jacksonville Goody Cookers 4-H club was called to order by President Pam Dunlap. Wc discussed having model 4-H meeting for the Jacksonville PTA in March. We decided that the mem bers who will bo absent the next meeting should let some one know in advance. Scout News Cub Scout Pack 10 On Jan. 23, Cub Scout Pack 10 of Howard school held their monthly meeting in the school's multipurpose room. Institutional Representa t i ve Dexter Kinnard presented the Cub Scout Charter to Harold Boner, who in turn will pre sent the Charter to Mrs. E. E. Chriss, President of the How ard school PTA. In Den 3, James Fullcn re ceived Denner stripe, Russell Morgan, assistant denner. Both boys also received their lion badge. In Den 4, John Reynolds received a two-year pin. For Den 6, Keith Guising cr received his Denner stripe, and Clifford Parker his as sistant denner stripe. Harold Boner presented a 50th anniversary flag stream er from President Eisenhow er to be attached to the Cub Scout flag. Fiftieth anniver sary award badges were pre sented to Harold Boner, Jack Bailey, Cecil Boles, Aubrey Head, Jo Marshall, Dora Bell, and Ora Guisinger. Those attending were Don ald E. Lewis, business mana ger and assistant to the presi dent; Miss Seraphine Scanlon, director of food services; and Jerry Mickey, assistant busi ness manager. Business matters and prob lems common to the three Or egon stale system of higher ed ucation institutions were dis cussed, with particular empha sis on registration procedures involving the business office. Devices for speeding up the payment of charges were con sidered, together with a re vision of forms. It was concluded that an other meeting should be scheduled with the registrars of the respective colleges in order to assure proper coor dination between the offices involved. AY Information Important To New Sawdust Uses Obtained in Research Corvallis - Information im portant to development of new anil improved uses for saw dust and shavings has been obtained by studies at the Or egon Forest Research center in Corvallis. Distribution of size of par ticles 'from various types of saws and planers was deter mined in a survey of mills in the Willamette valley. Half the volume of a log re mains as residue when 'it is cut into lumber, according to j S. E. Corder, research engi neer who directed the study. Uses exist for the 25 per cent of residue that is sawdust and 15 per cent that is planer shavings, but large quantities remain unused. Knowledge of size of particles may aid in creased utilization of residues, Corder explained. Similar distribution tf size of particles was fjtained with sawdust from band headsaws and band resaws. Circular headsaws produced sawdust of same distribution in size as sawdust made by circular edgers, Corder stated. Saw originals dust from band saws was smaller in size than sawdust from circular saws. Gangsaws produced sawdust that had a distribution in size between that of band saws and circular saws. Information on size of par ticles from mills in the Wil lamette valley is available from the Forest Research Cen ter upon request.
