Snider of Mcdford issued a statement last week in which he called attention to Jaycee Week starting Jan. IS in honor of the local chapter and the na tional organization of the Junior Chamber of Com merce. In his statement, Mayor Snider said: "This organiza tion is a vital force in our community and has played an important part in the ad vancement of civic affairs. I urge all citizens of our com munity to give full considera tion to the future services of the Junior Chamber of Com merce." Plans Told To Open Field Office Here William M. Tugman, Gardi ner, district field representa tive for Congressman Edwin R. Durno (R-Ore.) was in Med ford Thursday. He said he is working on arrangements for a field of fice in Medford for the con gressman, probably in the Medical Center building. Tugman, now retired for mer editor of the Eugene Register-Guard and former editor and publisher of the Port Umpqua Courier, was Dr. Durno's publicity manager during the election campaign last fall. Mcdford city police investi gated 155 major crimes, in cluding one robbery, during December, and closed 40 of them for a 25.8 per cent closed average, according to Chief of Police Charles P. Champlin's monthly report. The average was slightly above the average for the same month a year ago when 96 major crimes were re ported and police cleared 24 of them for a 25 per cent av erage. Included in Inst month's re ported major crimes were 19 burglaries, 126 larcenies and nine reports of auto theft. All three categories were higher than in the same month dur ing 1959, when 80 larcenies, seven burglaries and five auto thefts were reported. Miscellaneous Offenses Police investigated 626 mis cellaneous offenses during De cember and were able to clear 58 of them for a 89.1 per cent cleared average. Included in last month's miscellaneous re ports was one sex offense. The number of motor ve hicle accidents and resulting injuries last month were con siderably lower than those In the same month a year ago. Police received reports of 69 accidents resulting in nine in juries and one fatality, com pared to 95 accidents resulting in 36 injuries and no fatalities a year ago. Police issued 401 traffic ci tations last month, compared to 481 during December, 1959. They also issued 3.419. park ing meter tickets during the month, compared to 3,493 a year ago.
