Collision - A Freightliner Lumber trailer, operated by Dean Lloyd Weitman, route 1, box 5'42, Eagle Point, was hit by an automobile Tuesday night while it was stopped at a red light at the intersection of South Riverside ave. and Stewart ave., according to city police. The driver of the auto mobile, Daniel Peter Hennick, 1523 Ashland Drive rd., Ash , land, was cited for violation of the basic rule, police said. Police checked the building and found nothing wrong. Lights Taken - Werner E. Warnholtz, 1533 Stratford way, notified city police Tues day evening that 18 Christ mas tree lights had been taken from the tree in the front yard at that address. Lucille E. Kauni, 1616 Wood lawn st., told police that 10 lights from a tree at her home were also stolen. Autos Collide - Vehicles operated by John Barton Dolezal, Alturas, Calif., and William Montgomery Bray, Portland, collided Tuesday af ternoon on South Riverside ave. at Stewart ave., accord ing to city police. The Bray vehicle was reported to have been stopped at a red light when it was hit by the Dole-i zal car. No citations were issued, No Clinic --There will be no chest x-ray clinic at Sacred Heart hospital Thursday, Dec. 22, or Thursday, Dec. 29, ac cording to the Jackson Coun ty Tuberculosis and Health as sociation, sponsors of the clinic. Flue Fires - A flue fire at the Orville Brannon home, East Vilas rd., extended into the ceiling and into the firtex around the chimney, Central Point rural firemen Teported. Medford firemen were called to flue blazes about 8:05 a.m. yesterday at the residence of Mrs. Alice C. Trill, 716 Grant St., and at the home of Peter T. Trim, 1428 Crown ave., about 9:15 p.m. yesterday. ! Biegel said the meeting was held to discuss the terms and charges for acquiring addi tional water for Ashland from the district. Biegel said no agreement was reached at the meeting. However, he said that negotiations will be con tinued. Presently the city has a contract with the district for 769 acre feet of water each year. At the meeting, Biegel presented a plan for an additional 795 acre feet. The council voted to install traffic signs and flasher sig nals at Walker ave. on the corners of Highways 99 and 66. The state will furnishing the signs and signals and the city will finance maintenance and installation. The council passed a resolu tion giving their approval for proposed development of a ski area on Mt. Ashland. Another resolution was passed express ing appreciation to Arnold Bauder for work he partici pated in while a member of the Ashland Economic De velopment commission and hospital board of directors. Bird-Count Slated In Area on Friday The annual Christmas bird- count will, be conducted in this area on Friday, the Rev. Thomas McCamant said today. The count, conducted by lo cal birdwatchers and amateur ornithologists, is past of a na tion-wide bird census in which some 8,000 people participate. He said more than a dozen people will join in the Jackson county project. Tnrougnoui the nation the. count is con ducted according to the same rules, and while the results are , only estimates based on spot-counting, they do give a fairly accurate idea of the na tion's bird population. Eisenhower Thanks Nation's Soldiers , Washington -IUPD- President Eisenhower today thanked the nation's far-flung servicemen in his final Christmas message as commander - in - chief for their sacrifices as "defenders of peace." . . Peace, hs said, "Is the ab solute necessity of our time." In his 250-word message, the President said Mrs) Eisenhow er joined him in "sending out thanks and Christmas greetr ings to you, with best wishes for a happy New Year. "God bless you all. Proceeds from the lift will be donated to Sacred Heart hospital, they said. The Moose lodge will or ganize and. direct the drive with the cooperation ot car dealers, who loan pickup trucks to be used to collect trees throughout the city. City Sanitary Service company will provide trucks at collec tion points in parts of the ciiy, members said. Moose lodge officials said that checks may be made pay able to either Sacred Heart hospital, or the Moose lodge, and attached to the tree. The tree, they said, should be left on the front porch of the house, in order to protect the donation from being picked up by vandals. The drive will end with a Christmas tree burning near Medford. Location of the burn will be announced later. The public is invited to the burn ing. Little Success Is Noted in Project "Little success" was reports ed in a Tuesday morning at tempt to clear the fog at the Medford municipal airport, Norman Croy, city purchasing agent, who is in charge of the project, said today, A balloon carrying dry ice in a perforated bag was sent aloft about 10:20 a.m., he said, and a little snow was reported between 10:45 and 11:15 a.m. Croy said that an attempt to clear the fog from the runway was not made today since the temperature must be 32 de grees or lower to be effective. He added that conditions have to be "just right" before snow will form and the fog dissi- pai-e. . Each test uses approximate ly $1 worth of dry ice, Croy said.
