OREGON Shirley Lyman, Joseph Spiruta Engaged To Wed Gold Hill - Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lyman, Gold Hill, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Shirley Lyman, to Joseph Spiruta, ion of Mr, and Mrs. Frank Splru ta, Albany. Miss Lyman Is a graduate of Oregon State college and is an instructor in home eco- nomics at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. ' Mr. Spiruta Is an Oregon State college graduate and is manager of the Washington Wheat -commission, Spokane Wash. He is currently in New Delhi, India, completing an assignment for Wheat. Associ ates, USA. The wedding is planned for the summer of 1961. Miss Shirley Lyman Queen To Preside At Final Meeting Majority degrees and pro ficiency certificates will be awarded during the meeting of Bethel 14, International Order of Job's Daughters, Wednes day, December 21, at 7:30 p.m., in the Medford Masonic temple. This will be the last session at which Miss Carla Borough, honored queen, will preside. Any girls who must be absent because of participation in school programs are asked to call Mrs. Merlyn Harvey, guardian, prior to the meeting lo that they may be excused. The choir will, practice at 8:30 p.m.; preceding the meet ing. ,. Osteopaths Honored By Employees ; Nurses and receptionists employed by southern' Ore gon osteopathic physicians honored the men and their wives at a buffet dinner in the banquet room at North's Chuck Wagon December 13. ' Mrs. Edith Davis, em ployed In the office of Dr. George S. Jennings, was also honored. Mrs. Fred Clay, Jacksonville, mistress of cere monies, presented Mrs. Davis a corsage and praised her for "21 years of loyal service to Dr. Jennings and his pa tients." Unusual decorations for tha tables included black doctor's bags as well as traditional Christmas material provided by Mrs. Marjorie Lockwood of Talent Garden club. : Serving on the committee were Mrs. ' Eunice Vowell, Mrs. Ruth Koer and Mrs. Clorence Behler. An auction was held and the .proceeds of $75 were donated to the National Osteopathic Christmas seal fund for stu dent loan and research. A numerous skit was pre sented by Mrs. Behler and Miss Sandra Boese. Mrs. David Morgan, Shady Cove, accompanied by Mrs. Milton Snow, Medford, sang a solo and led the group in Christmas carols, '' Missionary Council Names New Officers; Miss Hazel Hanson was elected president of the Wom en's Missionary council of First Assembly of God church Tuesday evening, December .13. The council held its an nual secret pal Christmas party and election of officers at the home of Mrs. Ulrlch Keener. Other new officers are Mrs. Don Jacobs, vice-president; Mis. Keener, secretary, and Mrs. Myron Hanson, treasurer. Out-going officers are Mrs. Wylie Baker, president; Miss Hanson, vice-president; Mrs. Marjory Votaw, secretary; and Mrs. Daniel Smelser, treas urer. : Names of secret pals were revealed In the gift exchange. Miss Tompkins is a senior at Phoenix High school Mr. Hayes attanded Jackson villa schools., A June wedding is planned. , Zundels Honored At Party Gifts Approved By Guild Women Ashland - Cash gifts for three students at Concordia college in Portland were re cently approved bv members of the Grace Lutheran church Ladles guild. The students, all members of the congregation, are Lyle Hlnrichs, Allen Nicl son and Sam Howell. The guild, in a short busi ness meeting following lunch eon, also approved gifts for the Good Shepherd home of the West, Terra Bella. Calif.. and an orphanage in Brazil. Mrs. Adeline Wacker was in charge of a program In which lights were placed on a Christ mas tree for each of the prophecies of Christ. Gifts of cash placed on the Christmas tree by the women totaled $155.40, which is to help carrv out various projects of the guild. - ' Couple Expected r-rom Illinois 1 Mr, and Mrs. Tod Cornell are expected today from Ur- bana, 111;, to. spend the holi days with Mrs. Cornell's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hen- son, 2000 . The Zundels were married In Sioux Falls, S. D., October 5, 1935, after which they mov ed to Watertown, S. D., where Mr. Zundel owned and operat ed a used car market and fi nance company. They moved to Medford in 1940 and he is now employed by Medford corporation as an electrician. Movies of a South Dakota visit by the O'Tooles were shown. Chamberlain as- Private and Mrs. Gerald W. Rice Couple Wed In Germany , Ashland - From Germany has come news of the wedding of Miss F. Leonna (Lee) Os good, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Len Osgood, 720 Walker avenue, to Pvt. Gerald W. Rice, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Rice, 924 South Newton street, Medford. Miss Osgood and Private Rice were married October 8 in Furth, the civil service having been read by a German official. The young couple plan to remain in Germany, where the bridegroom is serving with the 24th engineering bat talion of the Army. He is a 1958 graduate of Talent High school. The bride was graduated from Ashland High school in 1959 and was employed by Household Finance corpora tion in Medford before travel ing to Germany. 1 Dinner Observes 61st Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Slavens, 411 Newtown street, were honored December 12 at a din ner given by their daughter, Mrs. W. T. Poff, 1110 West 11th street. The event observ ed the Slavens' 81st wedding anniversary. They were married in Cot tage Grove December 12, 1899. Mrs. Slavens was for merly Susan Harkness, Grants Pass. Mr. Slavens is a retired employee of Timber Products company. ... ... Social Evening Set For Groups Veterans of World War I, barracks 540 and auxiliary, have planned a social evening for Wednesday, December 21, at Girls Community club, 229 North Bartlett street. Mem bers of the auxiliary are to bring cake or sandwiches to the event, which will. begin at 7 p.m. Luncheon Slated By Howard Club A potluck luncheon and Christmas party for members of the Howard Garden club is planned for 12 o'clock Mon day, December 19, at the home of Mrs. James Wicker, 809 Adams lane, Medford, in stead of the regular meeting date. The program will include a small show of Christmas ar rangements by members and a gift exchange. Mrs. Ernest Gleason ' will give a summary of "Birds of Oregon: How to Know Them."
