Man Dead in , Apartment Zoo New York -flIPIl- An autopsy was ordered today on an ele vator operator who was found dead in his one-room apart ment that was crammed with a zoo full 01 snakes, turtles, parakeets, cats and a 22-Xool python. Police who forced their way into the apartment of Roland Rolando, 57, found one of the snakes, an eight-footer, slitter ing loose under a bed. They killed it with an ax. Authorities said they could not tell without an autopsy whether Rolando, who held a doctor of science degree, died of natural causes or poisoning from a snake bite. Police went to Rolando's apartment Tuesday after he had been reported missing since Saturday. He lives there alone. They forced their way into the room and were startled to find three snakes, six para keets, two cats, and four turtles, all in cages; a two-foot alligator dying in a sink, a tank containing man - eating piranha fish from tne Amazon river. The- unofficial tally by United Press International was: Kennedy - 34,230,804 (49. 714 per cent) Nixon - 34,118,643 (49.551 per cent) Others - 505,658 (0.735 per cent) Total - 68,85'5,195 Kennedy had 50.085 per cent of the two-party vote, and Nixon had 49.918 per cent - record slim difference of 0.184 per cent. Inmate Preparing Himself for Boxing Career When Released Higher Education Asks Report on Junior Colleges Lindell Carl Buttram of Shady Cove wants to be the strongest professional boxer in the world. There is, how ever, one drawback to his pursuing this career at the present time - he is an inmate at the Oregon Sthte peniten tiary in Salem. Buttram, who can weightlift 1,900 pounds at once, was convicted in 1958 of the bur glary of a Central Point fi nance company and was sen tenced to three years in the state prison. He has three months left to serve. Being a prison inmate has n't kept Buttram from train ing for his life's ambition to be a fighter. He has said he can outbox anyone in the pri son, and has apparently done so at one time or another. Plans Division Buttram is 23 years old, weighs 185 pounds and stands at 5 feet 10V4 inches tall. He plans to fight in the light heavyweight division The ambitious young in mate corresponds regularly with Medford Police Lt. Lyle C. Perkins, who is head of the department's detective di vision. Perkins was Instru mental in the arrest and con viction of Buttram following the finance company bur glary. The two men have since become good friends and Lieutenant Perkins has prom ised Buttram he will help him find a fight manager when he is released and if "he keeps his nose clean." Lifts 1,900 Pounds Buttram's weight lifting' prowess, if developed, would probably put him among the best weightlifters in the coun try. He has lifted 1,900 pounds, consisting of weights and three men. He can press 260 pounds with one arm which is just 10 pounds shy of the world record. But, he said in a recent let ter to Lieutenant Perkins: "I don't consider myself a weightlifter. I'm a fighter. Not as yet a fighter of note, but I'm going to be. I'm young: I'm strong; and I ve got all it takes." Ashland Schools Hold Programs; Others Are Set Ashland-More than 650 chil dren from the fourth, fifth and sixth grades of Ashland's four elementary schools presented the first in the series of three public school Christmas pro grams Monday night before a capacity crowd in the Ashland High school gym. Thursday night's concert Will be given in the new jun ior high school gym by junior high school students, and on Tuesday evening, Dec. 20, the high school program will be presented in the high school gym. One of the highlights of the program was the boys' chorus from Walker school with Gregory Jones singing the solo part in "O Holy Night." An interesting arrangement of the English melody "Seven Joys of Christmas" was sung by the Briscoe school chorus. European Carols Bellview chorus was heard in three European carols, while a group of German, Spanish and French songs of Christmas was presented by the Lincoln school chorus. Monte Bradshaw, young vi olinist, played Brahms' "Lul laby and the Christmas story from St. Luke was read by the Rev. B. J. Holland. The audience Joined in opening and closing carols of "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." Directors of the Monday concert were Mrs. Virginia Cecil, Mrs. Audrey Bartlett, Mrs. Vera Burgoyne, Mrs. Syl via Pfahler, Frank Kenney, Raoul Maddox and Bernard Windt. Mrs. J, W. McCoy was the organ accompanist. Buttram says most fighters are weak when physical strength is considered. This will not be the case with him and he claims that "with out a doubt I will be the strongest light heavyweight in the world." He said his fight posters will boast this claim. Because he has spent sev eral of his prime fighting years in prison, Buttram has not had a chance to fight pro fessionally on the "outside." Neither has he had any pro fessional training to speak of. Buttram says, however, that things will be different when he is released. Starting these last few months in prison, Buttram plans to start train ing extensively and will con tinue training upon his re lease. When he is released, But tram wants to get a job. He says he will take any kind of a decent" job that is of fered. All he wants, he says, is "something to hold me un til I can establish myself in the ring." Two Arrested Alter Accident in Medford Medford police arrested two women on charges of be ing drunk in public Monday afternoon after the vehicle in which they were riding struck a parked truck in front of 634 North Central ave. One of the women received minor injuries in the accident, po lice said. Arrested were the driver, Marilyn Jeanne Albertson, 31, Phoenix, and her passenger Margaret Lorraine Hess, 34 of 402 Park st. Police said Mrs. Hess sustained a slight injury on the mouth. She was given treatment at the police station. The Alberton car sustained heavy damage to the front end. The board voted to ask for legislation raising the amount of money it can borrow to $33 million. The present ceiling is $24 million. Board members said the change would permit $10 mil- ion to be spent on new, self- liquidating educational facil ities in the next two years. In other action, the board moved to seek legislation changing the names of three state institutions. Under the proposal, Oregon State Col lege would become Oregon Stale University; Eastern Ore gon College of Education would become Eastern Oregon College; and Southern Oregon College of Education would become Southern Oregon Cat- lege. Board president Henry Ca bell named himself, William E. Walsh, and Dr. Ralph Pur vine to a committee to seek re placement for Oregon Stnte College President A. L. Strand, who plans to take an other post with the state sys tem of higher education next summer. No action was taken on naming a new president at University of Oregon. Credit Cards To Extend To Japan Los Angeles - tUPP - Stanley Dasliew president of Dashew Business Machines, Inc.', to day announced a venture he says will extend the U.S credit card system to Japan The idea is to use universal credit cards processed by machines. The venture will be known as Dashew TDS and will also involve Toshi Go, 72-ycar-old Japanese industrialist and former president of the Japan Times. Go has formed a 50-50 partnership with the Japan Times' Tokyo Daiichi Slioji Company.
