Break Said Near
In Newhouse Case
Portland - IUPD - Detectives
investigating the shooting of
newspaper executive Donald
Newhouse have announced
they have information that
may identify an assailant s gel
away car.
Officers said the description
was contained in an anony
mous letter written in re-
sponse to a $10,000 reward
posted by the Oregonian and
the Oregon Journal.
Newhouse, a pro duction
manager for the Oregonian, is
recovering from the shooting
two months ago.
The letter reported a car
answering the description of a
vehicle wanted in the New-
house case was abandoned in
southern Oregon soon after
the shooting.
Officers said they are await
ing additional facts from the
writer of the letter.

Salem Control Tower
Approval Expected

toward a control tower and
landing control facility at Sal
en's McNary Field is expected
to be taken by the Salem city
council Monday night.
The council is expected to
approve $27,000 as the city's
share in construction costs of
the tower.
Two Industrial
Fatalities Reported
Salem-IUPII-There were two
industrial fatalities reported
to the Oregon Industrial Acci-
den Commission last week
and a total of 1,038 accidents.
The fatalities were Orlando
Ray Cutler and Mauflce John
Foley, both of Kennewick,
Wash. Both died in a Novem
ber accident 50 miles east of
Gardner.

The scries of events began
Wednesday when Utley was
notified of his dismissal be
ginning in January. A move
to put him immediately on
vacation was blocked when ft

Mayor Dunckel Friday night
reappointed Clarence Thomas
to the council and named Carl
Groth to succeed Dr. Robert
Hjort on the council. Then
by a 5-1 vote, the council
fired Utley on the spot.

The union declined to re

out.
The union, which represents

nia, is seeking a 10 per cent
wage increase. The company's
