Dr. Edward T. Blomquist, chief of the tuberculosis branch, division of special health services, U. S. Public Health Service, has callec for coordination between pub lic health agencies and com munities to stamp out TB. Eradication of tuberculosis means killing the tubercle bacilli in persons now suffer ing from the active disease and in those who previously had TB and were inadequate ly treated. The proper dosage of appropriate drugs, such as isoniazid, over a period of time will make it impossible to communicate the disease to others and will lessen the pos sibility of recurrence in the patient. Death Decline Because the death rale for tuberculosis has declined enough so that many TB hos pitals have been closed, Iilom quist said that the public has interpreted this situation as evidence thai tuberculosis services in general can be cut back. Public heallh departments arc in difficulty on this ac count, but Blornquisl said that inlcrcounly cooperation enab ling the slate health depart ment to work out a state plan Tor TB treatment might be a I solution. I "The amount of direct ser vice or financial assistance the state gives is not an issue," lie said. "Any slate health de partment should be able to serve in a coordinating capacity." Wall Street Chatter New York - (UPI) - Unless a general rise in stock prices ! takes place in the near future, a testing and possible penctra- j tion of the market average I lows set in October may easi ly result, according to Hemp hill, Noycs & Co. On the whole, the firm says, the picture does not look promising either for the short or intermediate term and there is a real danger that the long term trend will continue on downward at least into the first quarter of 1961. Hutlon & Co. has a recommended list of com panies that are expected to benefit from their strong foot holds in the Western Euro pean markets: American Ex press, Chescbrough - Ponds, Chicago Pneumatic Tool, Coca-Cola, Corn Products, Gillette, International Tel & Tel, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, National Cash Regis ter, Procter & Gamble and Quaker Oats. Goodbody & Co. says there are reasons to doubt that the meal - in-a-glass business is going to become an important part of our daily life as sug gested recently by an adver tising trade publication. The most significant thing about this boomlet, Goodbody says is the Indication It gives of the willingness of investors and speculators to buy whenever there is a reason that "seems" logical. Trained Horses Get Logs Our of Forest International Falls, Minn. -Gerald Wheclock and his nephew, Dean, have devised a form of automation lo snake logs from the forest at their logging site near here. But they have to say "giddyap" to get it started. They've trained a pair of horses to skid logs out of the woods along the 1, 000-fool trail without benefit of reins or a driver. Gerald hooks the logs up to a horse No. 1, gives him a gentle pat and off the animal goes to the loading ramp. When No. 1 arrives, Dean starts No. 2 back on the trail for another load. They say the two trained horses save the big expense of tractors and loaders lo get the pulp wood logs out of the woods.
