Medford sTlflBUNE Regional Edition Page 3A Hoffa, 2 Others Indicted by Jury For Money Misuse Washington -UPD- Teamster President James R. Hoffa and two others were indicted by a federal grand jury today on charges of misusing more than $500,000 in union funds in promoting Sun Valley Inc., a Florida land company. The indictment was re turned in Orlando, Fla., and announced here by Attorney General William P. Rogers. Defendants Named Named as defendants with Hoffa were Henry Lower, Sun Valley president and for mer head of Automobile Dri vers and Demonstrators Local 376, Detroit, and Robert E. McCarthy Jr., former branch manager of the Bank of the Commonwealth, Detroit. The Justice Department said Lower was arrested in Detroit this morning. Search Yields Stolen Goods Oregon City - H1PII -bout $30,000 worth of stolen goods was discovered in an old building near here Tuesday the by-product of a search for a missing coed and her boy friend's slayer. Rogers said the indictment was a result of 13 months of investigation by postal in spectors, Internal Revenue agents, the FBI, and Justice Department attorneys. Scheme Said Devised The indictment charged that, beginning about March 1, 1954, Hoffa, Lower and Mc Carthy devised a scheme to defraud four Detroit labor or ganizations and others by in ducing them to purchase land from Sun Valley through means of false pretenses and promises.
