Miller, conference superin tendent of the Free Methodist churches in Oregon. The ser vices will be held nightly. Dec. 18 is the deadline for receiving nominations from the membership. 1957 Award of Merit Winner First Church of God To Meet at Wilson School The First Church of God, formerly at Haven and Holly sts.. will hold all of its services starting Sunday at Wilson school gymnasium at Corona the pastor, the Rev. W. E. Martin. Services will continue to the completion of the new church at 2000 Crater Lake ave Work on the new building is utilizing volunteer labor under carpenter, George Cramer. The new building Is expected to be ready in late January. All members are being notified by personal letter of the change in location of the services and how to reach Wilson school. MAHAN Giving Instruction Representative Of Watchtower Society Here Visiting the Medford con gregation of Jehovah's Wit nesses this week is Leo A. Mahan, representative from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society world headquar ters in Brooklyn, N. Y. He is here to supervise and effect improvements in the lo cal ministerial training pro gram conducted by the Bible teaching fellowship. H. S. Nixon, presiding min ister of the Medford congre gation, announced that there has been a 10 per cent in crease in the local preaching fellowship with four new pub lishers ordained since the cir cuit minister's vUlt six months ago. Attendance at the con gregation meetings, and tne number of ministers being trained in house-to-house min istry has shown a marked in crease. Mr. Mahan is giving per sonal instruction in these fea tures of house-to-house preach ing to individual members of the congregation. Platform instruction began wth the keynote address "Become Ef fective Teachers" by Mahan Tuesday evening. Highlight of Saturday's ac tivity will be the talk by Ma han at 8 p.m. on the subject "Staying Awake With tne Faithful and Discreet Slave," followed by participation by the congregation in the pro gram "New Things Learned." Climax of this week of activ ity will bo at 4 p.m., Sunday with the public Bible dis course "Seeking Peace With God And Man." Church To Stress Hymns Sunday Christian singing is one of the most vital factors of Chris tianity, according to John V. Heberling, minister of Cen tral Church of Christ. In recognition of this, Cen tral church will center1 its worship services Sunday around the role of music in the Christian, faith. At the 11 a.m. worship hour Mr. Heberling will speak on the theme "Jesus Took My Bur den." His message will be based upon the hymn of the same name which will be sung by Mrs. Ruth Hover and Mr. Heberling preceding the sermon. The service ' at 7:30 p.m. will be hymn singing with the message by Mr. Heber ling entitled "Why Do Chris tians Sing?" Hymns will be used to illustrate the sermon. Bible school begins at 9:45 a.m. when all the departments will meet together for a com bined opening. Youth and adults will take for their text Jeremiah 31 on the theme "God's Covenant of Love. Morris will fill the pulpit Sunday at First Church of the Nazarcne, 520 North Holly st., in the absence of the pastor. Mr. Morris, who is now pas- toring the Church of the Naz arene In Phoenix, was for merly assistant pastor at Med ford First church. Unity Services To Be Held in New Location Sunday Morning Unity services will be held Sunday for the first time in their building at the corner of Haven and Holly sts. The building was recently pur chased by the Unity Center of Medford from the First Church of God. District Rally Set By Adventists Dec. 3 A district wide Missionary Volunteer rally will be held in the Medford Seventh-day Adventist church Saturday, Dec. 3, at 4 p.m. Pastors Richard Swartz and Roy An derson of the Oregon Confer ence Missionary Volunteer de partment will be present from Portland. Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. Pastors Schwartz and Anderson will conduct a Pathfinder train ing course in the Medford church for Pathfinder work ers of all the southern Oregon Adventist churches. NEW AGE CHURCH "Cosmic Consciousness" will be the subject of a lecture at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday by Dr. Dell E. Millard, at the New Age church, north of Eagle Point, on Hammcl rd. Preced ing the lecture there will be a fellowship dinner at 1 p.m. and a musical half-hour at 2 p.m. The Rev. A church membership course for adults will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. It will be taught by the pastor and will cover basic Christian faith, patterns of Christian living, and the work of the United Presbyterian church. Carol Festival Scheduled Sunday By Methodists Dr. George Roseberry, min ister at First Methodist church, will preach the sec ond Advent sermon on "From the Cradle to the Crown" at the 9:30 and the 11 a.m. serv ices. The Christmas music will be a solo for each service, "A Star Was His Cradle" sung by Mrs. Gregory MacDougall. The youth choir will sing Good Christian Men Re- joice" in the 9:30 a.m. service while the chancel choir will sing "Joseph's Carol" for the 11 a.m. service. The Eleventh Festival of Christmas Carols will be held in the sanctuary Sunday at 5 p.m. The three choirs of nearly a 100 voices will pre sent the hour-long festival. There will be anthems, quar tets and solos as well as car ols sung by the congregation and the choirs. Dr. and Mrs. Milton Snow will sing Watts' Nativity Car ol. The chancel choir will sing three 13th Century car ols and the youth choir will sing two specially arranged carols. Miss Sharon Smith will sing "J e s u s, Jesus, Rest your Head.'.' The altar choir will sing "Luther's Cradle Hymn and a trio composed of Nancy Anderson, Lois Baccus and Linda Weinhold will sing "Hocking, Hocking." 1 The musical concert will be under the direction of the minister of music Mrs. Char les Adamson; Gary Lovre, di rector of the youth choir, and Mrs. Snow, director of the altar choir. Mrs. Leslie Board- man is the organist. Early Service To Be Discontinued St. Peter's Lutheran church will discontinue the 8:15 a.m worship service Sunday. The service was continued for three additional months be cause of good attendance, ac cording to the Rev. John E, Simon, pastor. Holy communion will be celebrated Sunday during the 11 a.m. service. Mr. Simon will speak on "How God Wants Christians to Prepare for the Coming of the End of the World." He is currently preaching on the standard Gospel selections for the church year. Children in the Sunday school are reminded that re hearsals for the children's Christmas service are being held during the Sunday mor ning school hour. New officers will be elected. SPEAKERS Williams - Several persons have been filling the pulpit at the Williams Community church in recent weeks since the church is currently with out a pastor. Among the speakers have been Jerry Hoi- dridge, Roy Price, and the Rev. James Sayler, Portland. One Saturday evening Hoi dridge and Price were hon ored at a potluck supper and Lester Sparlin showed pic tures of several of his recent trips. Stewardship Day Planned Sunday Five men will speak during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday at Ascension Luther an church, 2501 Barnett rd., according to the Rev. .Elvin S. Tollefson, pastor. ., The stewardship service will begin with a colored sound movie, 'The Measure of Man." The regular liturgi cal service will be omitted due to the presentation of the 1961 congregational budget. Talks will be presented by Oliver Erickson, "Steward ship of Time," Wendell Ap plen, "Stewardship of Tal ents," John Hall, "Steward ship of Possessions," Richard Melum, "Our Accomplish ments," and Archie Olson, "Our Budget.". . 'Truth Endureth' Series Continues The Sunday sermon at St. Luke's Methodist church will be a continuation of the series on "His Truth Endureth." The Rev. Melvin Dixon, minister, will speak. The service is at 11 a.m. and the chapel choir will sing the anthem, "With a Voice of Singing." Supervised nursery is provided for pre-school children. The Sunday School begins session at 9:45 a. m. with classes for all age groups. The Methodist Youth Fel lowship groups will not meet Sunday because of the plan ned family night at St. Luke's. It will start with a covered dish supper at 5:30 p.m. with the movie "Martin Luther" at 6:30 p.m. Those attending the supper are to take a hot dish with a salad or dessert and their own table service. .
