Mekvold attended the recent annual conference of the department of rural ed ucation, National Education association, at Louisville, Ky. Beattle, superinten dent of schools, Allegheny county, Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a banquet address by Ken lucky Gov. Burt T. Combs. Members then will formally Instruct the association's delegate to the representative council, Ogden Kellogg. Discussions were on the basic school support formula, 1 tenure practices, and means j of achieving the association's ; legislative objeclivcs. "The committee was im pressed by the number of 1 issues on which education ' associations, school board as sociations and legislative com-; mittces are in agreement," according to Bill Russell, as-1 sociation member. 1 26 of 99 Major Offenses Cleared During October Medford city police cleared 2 of nn maior offenses re ported to them during October for a 26.3 per cent cleared average, according to Med ford Police Chief Charles P. Champlin's monthly report. During the same month in 1959, police cleared 34 of 103 cases reported for a 33 per cent average. Of the maior offenses re- nnrfpH last month. 14 of them were burglaries, of which two were cleared; 78 were lar cenies of which 21 were ..lonrpH- and seven were auto thefts, of which three were cleared. Miscellaneous Offenses There were 697 miscel laneous offenses reported dur ing the month of which 580 u,oi rlnarerf for a 83.2 per cent cleared average. Includ ed in the miscellaneous of fenses were four assaults and four sex crimes. On Medford streets there were 61 traffic accidents re niHn in in iniuries. There were no fatalities. This total is down from October, 1B5B, when 68 accidents resulting in 16 injuries were reported. The department issued 430 traffir citations durine Oc tober, compared to 426 for the same month during 1959. Of these, the greatest number, 88, were issued for violation the basic rule, and 77 were is sued for no stop at sign or signal. A total of 3,640 parking meter tickets were issued last month, compared by 3,681 during October, 1959. Area Art Exhibit Planned in City Th first annual area art exhibition sponsored by the Pnmif.
