C 5 Guild Has New Members; Patron Invitations Mailed Several new members were Introduced at a luncheon meeting of the Philharmonic Society guild Tuesday at the Rogue Valley Country club. The new members are the Mesdames Price Shafer, J. J. McHugh, Ernestine Hartley, Dwight Houghton, Richard Padgham, O. M. Anderson, Merle Morgan, Clco H. Young and Oliver Y. Beard, Phoe nix. Both active and associate open memberships are avail able for the guild, it Is stated. Mrs. Herbert Hunter was elected treasurer to fill that vacancy. The patrons committee an nounced that the patron invi tations had been mailed. The Philharmonic society is or ganized for the purpose of presenting fine music as a cultural asset to the commu nity and it was pointed out that there is no musical so c 1 e t y presenting orchestral concerts in the nation that is self-supporting. Patrons and sponsors assist in the defray ing of expenses. It was decided that infor mation concerning the Phil harmonic society would be supplied to Welcome Wagon and Newcomer's Service. This would make - it possible for newcomers to the valley to Adaral Social Club Announces Luncheon Jacksonville -Adarel Social club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, November 10, at the Jacksonville Masonic tern pie. Potluck luncheon will be served, and members are to bring table service. Hostesses will be Mrs. Har ris Olson, Mrs. George Mero, Mrs. Lloyd Hamilton and Mrs. Ralph Dillon. learn about the chorus, or chestra and guild and to affili ate more quickly with the group of their choice. Two fund raising activities were decided upon. The first is the commissioning of char coal sketches of children or animals to be done by Ray Lewis. Further details about this will be announced at a later date and some sketches will be available for viewing at the Society's November 13 concert. A "Variations" table will be premiered at the same time where there will be for sale hand made items, candy, and small gifts for the "stay-at-homers.'' Mrs. Oliver (Matte willis) Beard will supervise the decorating of this table. Refreshments will be served during the concert intermis sion and hostesses will be Mrs. Price Shafer, Mrs. J. J, McHugh, Mrs. Herbert Hunt er and Mrs. H. H. Bresee. Mrs, Guy Kraft Hornhrook Visitor Hornbrook r Mrs. Guy Kraft, Colton, Calif., was a visitor Friday at the home of her sister Mrs. Henley Claw- son. Mrs. Kraft, a deputy grand matron for district 60, Order of the Eastern Star of California, had been attend ing the grand chapter meet ing in Sacramento. She also visited relatives in Yreka and Hornbrook. To compliment her sister, Mrs. Clawson gave a luncheon at her home on Friday, Guests included Mrs. Mabel Sanders, Mrs. Robert Cummins, Mrs. Loren Cummins and daughter Jennifer, all of Hornbrook, and Mrs. C. Italian-Born Medford Citizens Write to Alba About UN Chapter Two Medford residents, who came to the United States some years ago from Italy, have written a letter to the citizens of Alba, Italy. Their letter is part of a sister-city relationship between Medford and Alba, and also was sent on behalf of the Medford chapter of the United Nations association. Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Pelle grini, 624 Dakota street, wrote the letter in Italian. Mrs. Pel legrini's English translation follows: "We greet first of all our sister-city of Alba, its citizens and you, Mr. Mayor. "We, a group of people In terested to sustain and propo gate the principles of the United Nations wish to give to the people of Alba a brief account of our activities in this direction. At that time Dr. Rebuzzini spokei at length about Italy, its eco nomical and social conditions. (The translator of this letter, an old Triestina, but a long standing citizen of the USA, still thinks with warm feelings upon that visit because of the pleasure she and her husband experienced in hosting Dr. R. in their own home.) "Actually the main purpose of this letter is to find out If It is possible to form in Alba a similar group to ours. Wo are auite certain that in Alba, too, there are many men and women who are deeply con cerned about world peace and world affairs. "We feel also that only those of strong convictions, whose faith in the United Na tions can withstand the in evitable controversies, should take the lead. It isn't an easy task to rouse people out of their lethargy, of their apathy Experience taught us that in order to achieve even a medio cre success in this instance, a iremendous amount of pa tience and perseverance Is needed. The efforts, however are worthwhile. "Should, however, a United Nations group exist already in your city, then we would be very grateful to you if you would inform us and toll us all about it. "We are sura that the ex change of ideas, thoughts and eventual projects would be of benefit and interest to both of us. . We renew our greetings and are hopeful to hear soon from you." Teenage Drinking Is Meeting Topic A discussion of - teen-age drinking as it concerns the Medford area was the topic of Thursday's meeting of Med ford Coordinating Council of Parent-Teacher associations, Mrs. Max Weston, president, appointed a committee to see what can be done to solve this problem. This committee will work with the county PTA on the Juvenile Code. Mrs. Precla Medley, city school librarian, explained how library books are mend ed, the cost of school libra ries and why there are book fines. The December meeting will be held at Hedrlck Junior High school.
