Elected president was Jack Duff of Adams, During its legislative ses sion, the association support ed Ballot Measure 6. In addi tion, the group opposed Ihe expansion of driver training In the schools and legislation which seeks to legislate cer tain curriculum requirements. The two day conference closed Friday afternoon. Members of the Jackson county court and at least three members of the Jackson county home rule study com mittee plan to attend sessions of the Association of Oregon Counties Nov. 15 to 18 in Portland. Rcpresentating the county court will be County Judge Earl Miller and County Com missioners Chester Wcndt and Ralph James. Wendt is a mem ber of the AOC executive committee. Home rule committee mem bers planning to attend are Mrs. Lester Adams, Apple gac; Maurice MacLeod, Gold Hill, and Mrs. Thomas Rutter, Medford, committee chairman. Mrs. Ogden Kellogg, Gold Hill, plans to represent the local chapter of the League of Women Voters at the ses sion on home rule scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 16. The league's local project for the year is evaluation of county government in relation to home rule. Citiians to Matt Citizen members of county charter study committee in nine counties will meet with the county officials at an all day session Wednesday. The "County Charter Clinic" will be the first joint meeting of the committees since they were estbalished, executive di rector, National Association of County Officials, William M. Siegcl, assistant County Counsel, Santa Clara county, California, and Orval Eltcr, staff attorney, bureau of mu nicipal research and service. Major addresses of the AOC session will be by Dan Gray, president, National Associa tion of County Officials, and J. W. Forrester Jr., editor of the Pendleton East Oregonian. Seven panel and workshop discussions will cover subjects ranging from cost accounting to public relations. A special panel session is scheduled Tuesday, Nov. 15 tor newly-elected county Jud ges and commissioners. A. R. McMullen, Lincoln county district attorney, will summarize the legal status of county government in Ore gon. Benton County Judge E. E. Larkln, will discuss fiscal responsibilities of coun ty courts. Commissioner Hur on Clough, Douglas county, will cover county road admin istration, Judge F. L. Phipps, The Dalles, and Ken Tollena ar, association executive sec retary, will give the history and activities of the AOC. A discussion on equalized flat grants will be led Wed nosday, Nov. 16, by Charles Mach, chairman, state tax commission. Panelists will be State Sen. Ward Cook, chair man of the interim education committee; R e p r e sentative Clarence Barton, chairman of the interim tax, committee, Representative Stafford Han- Argument Over Coat Results in Killing Portland - IUPD - An argu ment involving a coat being knocked on the floor cost the life of one man and resulted in the critical wounding ol another in a shooting spree here early Saturday. The shooting followed an argument at a Chinese restau rant. , Killed was Robert Jennen, 37, Portland. Another man, Charles L. Vance, 34, was critically wounded. Police have arrested Donald A. Wal lace, 30, Portland, on a charge of first degree murder. "County Planning Beyond the Fringe?" will be discussed Thursday, Nov. 16, by Wes Kvarsten, director, Mid-Willamette Valley Planning coun cil, and George Lea, range conservationist, bureau of land management. County government public relations will be discussed Thursday, Nov. 17, by John Carpenter, Portland, and Hugh McGilvra, editor, Wash ington County News-Times. County treasurers will dis cuss Bancroft bonding for counties, and county engine ers and surveyors will hold a joint session. Of major Interest to this area will be a report of the association's federal lands committee which covers a number of separate recom mendations emphasizing full development of forest, graz ing and recreation resources on lands owned by the fed eral government in Oregon. Calls -for Support One proposal calls for sup port of the BLM's long range program for range rehabilita tion and improvement as cov ered in Its "Project Twenty Twelve" report. Prineville Boy Hurt In Shooting Accident Portland - IUPD - Eddie Leonard, 10, Prineville, re mained in critical condition at Good Samaritan hospital Sat urday from Injuries received In an accidental shooting at Prineville.'
