Radar, Tiros I ;,, Pictures Being Studied at OSC : Corvallis - Pictures of Ore gon storm clouds taken from below with weather radar and from above by the weather ,' satellite, Tiros I, are under study at Oregon State college nd the "double exposure" is expected to provide new in- sight Into northwest weather. ( Dr. Fred W. Decker and 0 t h e r OSC meteorologists have been making weather radar studies from the cam- . pus, Mary's peak, and now from an adjacent peak for ' four years. The radar yields detailed pictures of rain pat terns and permits "tracking" of storms from the lime they approach Iho coast to when they reach the Cascades. When Tiros I was launched April 1,. the . meteorologists stepped up their activity with " an eye on possible compare j sons of pictures of storms from "upper space" and "down under." ' ' Rtceiv Pictures - They have now received few Tiros I pictures covering the northwest area- and plan detailed comparisons, of these -and some to come - with ra dar data. Many of the unknowns: of ocean weather patterns should be answered in coming years with the help of the weather satellite program, according to Decker. - - And the Pacific northwest can use information on wcath er patterns to better advan tage than almost any, other section, he noted, because it is recognized as a "weather forecaster's nightmare." Scan ty observations available on cloud and storm patterns across the vast Pacific ocean areas make forecasts here es- pccially tricky, he explained. Perry, who was arrested by Colorado authorities this week, is wanted on a Jackson county court warrant for forging the title in the sale of car in Medford. Fint Hair That Isn't On A Frog? Horie-faatheril There is never, of course, any hair, on the satin-smooth skin of a frog. Both pointed out the Navy is going ahead with plans to bring families of servicemen here on the assumption that Cuba will honor its treaty obligations. They , admitted, however, they cannot read what is in Castro's mind and they will not rule out an assault. ' They feel that Castro is more likely to conduct a cam paign of harassment, with some sabotage possibly thrown in. Everyone at Guan tanamo is edgy because there1 are 4,000 Cubans on the base every day. All but 800 of them go heme at night, Cautions Against Alarm "We don't want to get the people alarmed actually," Smith said. "I don't think 'he situation Is much different than it was six months ago. but Castro has been stepping up the tempo and we have been stepping up our defense preparations. As a result, I wouldn't say the situation is dangerous. That is a relative term. It is tense and we are just waiting to see."
