This de generation comes sometimes with advancing years. In many cases, in which there is trouble with the little bone called the stapes, an operation on this will give relief. Good results with such an operation were reported recently by Finnish ear men who said they were able not only to improve hearing but also to cut down on the noises. Ear noises with Meniere's disease are very hard to relieve. They may subside after months or years. As I must keep saying, hypnosis is largely a method for giving suggestion, and often this sug gestion helps only for a while. I have talked to a number of psychiatrists who sometimes use this technic, and most of them tell me they use it in only certain cases, and then only as part of a long course of treatment. Some tell me that it may take a while for a person to learn to go easily into the hypnotic state, and then to cooperate with the psychiatrist. Many persons who want to try hypnosis tell me of the dif ficulties they have encounter ed in trying to find in their city a fine, ethical, trust worthy, and well-trained man to do the hypnotizing. I doubt if many people will be cured, as they expect to be, by one attempt at hypnosis. Most Popular Holiday party-time is al most here!
