MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD, ORE. SUNDAY. OCTOBER 16. I960 Farfflers Work On Diversion ' Canby, Ore.- IUPD - Farmers headed by a crusading dairy' man are trying to accomplish ior $1,500 a job which Army engineers estimate would cost much more. Elmer Deetz, former legis lator who led the fight years ago to repeal Oregon 8 milk control law, is supervising the project on the Molalla river near here. The idea is to dig a cut into a section of the old stream bed to bypass an 1,800-foot horseshoe swing of the river where erosion to farmlands has occurred. Deetz. says it can be done for $1,500 and that the job should be com pleted some time this week. Army engineers said the channel diversion would re lieve the erosion problem temporarily. But they said an overall $188,000 government flood control program on the river would provide major improvements for flood con trol and not merely erosion elimination at one point in the stream.
