Possibility of Hospital JrtVV:
Orbit to TrieatrGerim
Of Patients Being Considered
Washington - iUPD - The pos
sibility of shooting a hospital
into orbit around the earth
has been raised by the House
Space committee. .
, The committee, in a report
on life sciences and space,
' said people with certain types
of cancer , or heart "conditions
may some day be placed in
space for medical treatment.
, "The possible therapeutic
' effects of weightlessness are
still to be explored," the re
port said.
Not Inconceivable i
- "Although experience may
show the disadvantages - are
greater," the committee con
tinued, "it is not inconceivable
that in" time some types of
coronary cases will find re
lief by being sent to a space
.station in free fall around
the earth." ,
" : Concerning cancer victims,
the report said that perhaps
"some ingredient in the spec
trum of radiation reaching a
space ship" will be helpful
"if the patient is sent up to
a space station for therapy."
More mundane health bene

from space research, also

The report said a drug de

already has been used to treat
certain kinds of mental illness
and that new "long-life, tjf-,

used in defective hearts.?,-,;,.: .-,
; Aain-looking into the u-.
ture, it said researchers, had
just started working on arti
ficial hibernation techniques
for long-term space voyagers.
"This : work," the report
said, "is .still at the early
stages but one can foresee
that not only .might this solve
problems of astronauts but it
might make a .contribution
to curing some ilinesses, hand

IT'S FIRE PREVENTION WEEK...
STOP, LOOK AND READ the labels on household products. There
can be danger in things you might not suspect. "Flammable" me.ans
more than just keeping away rom an open flame. Flammable
liquids should be kept in proper containers, tightly sealed, and
stored in well-ventilated places, so fire-causing vapors can not
escape.
