Chapter Holds Rushing Party; Library Visited Alpha Lambda chapter of - Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority held a rush party October- 3 at the home of Mrs. Daniel Kidd. The theme of the party was "New Stars Into Orbit," fol lowing the chapter theme for the year, "Stars Into Orbit." Games, in conjunction with the star theme, were led by Mrs. William Riggert, rushing chairman, assisted by Mrs. Davis Young and Mrs. Peter Greene. Rushees attending were Mrs. Floyd Davis, Mrs. Har vcv Wyatt, Mrs. Robert Tor- helm, Mrs. Robert Rudy, Mrs. Vinton Pope, Mrs. Harold Ed monds, Mrs. Herbert Part ridge, Mrs. James Sonerville, Mrs. Jack Huston and Mrs. Fred Keene. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Richard Harrison and Mrs. William Cox. . . : Chapter members met re cently at the Mediord rumic library for a tour and instruc tion on the use of library facilities. A business and educational meeting followed at the home of Mrs. Chester Peterson with Mrs. Wylle MacPfrorson edu cational director, announcing "Alpha Lambda Goes to Col lege" as the chapters edu cational theme for the year. Music Drive I Clli Diillla accnfiaflnn nrai Seth Bull's, association presi dent for many years, is serv ing as campaign chairman this year. Mrs. Margaret Musso, rep resentative from the New York office of Civic Music as sociation, spoke saying "every human responds to music." She added that those who ap preciate the beauty and value of fine music are duty pound to make an effort to see that it is available to everyone She stressed that only through the combined efforts ol citi zens in such groups as Civic Music can first rate music and dancing and other cultural programs be made avanaDie to smaller communities. Already booked for next January is the Ballet de Mon te Carlo, one of the best known dance companies in the United States. It was pointed out that the price of the Civic Music series for tne season is about equal to what single good seats for the Ballet Russe cost in large cities. The company will appear in Hed- rick Junior High school whicn has an extremely large stage nd the lighting necessary for such a presentation. Mrs. Musso also said "mu sic is not Just for the effete. It is for everyone. Music is as popular as baseball." She pointed out that concerts of music and dancing are "family fun" and provide the cultural and artistic life which is es sential to counter-balance the American world of noise, speed on the highway, hurry and stress in the business world, and economic mater ialism. Mr. Bullis also spoke, stress ing that volunteers are not asking for contributions, but selling a worthwhile product and doing a community serv ice. It was pointed out that memberships for both adults and students may be given as gifts. Campaign headquarters are at the Lusk Piano house and telephone numbers are SPring 7037, and SPring 3-2H7VS. The membership campaign will close Saturday noon, and no single admissions are ever sold for any performance. Entertainment was provid ed by Otis Swisher, who sang, accompanied by Mrs. James Sheldon. Mrs. Howard Bush decorated the dinner tables About 90 persons from all parts of Jackson county at tended. , Hostesses Announced For Mistletoe Club Mrs. Frank Hussong, Mrs. Arthur Johnson, Mrs. Irene Shirley and Mrs. Maude Lovell are to be hostesses for meeting of Mistletoe club at Girls Community club Wed nesday, October 12, at 12 o'clock. Mrs. Hussong and Mrs. , Johnson are co-chair men, and tne committee win provide meat dishes for a luncheon. Club members are to take scissors to the meeting. m Women's News Daughters. Hold Sale Of Candy Central Point-The annual candy sale of the Internation al Order of Job's Daughters is now in full swing In Cen tral Point's Bethel 38. Pro ceeds will go to the leukemia fund, the Asthma Foundation of Arizona,, scholarships, and the support of two children through the Save the Chil dren Foundation. Honored Queen Rebecca Ferrell announced the drive at the last meeting, and Mrs, Ralph J. Johnson, finance chairman of the Guardian council, distributed the candy to all members present. Miss Kathleen Collinsworth treasurer, was formally in stalled into her office during the session. Friendship night for Bethel 38 was designated as October 18 and invitations have been issued to all bethels in the area. It was announced tnat 13 girls would be able to at tend the Friendship night of Bethel 36 in Kerby October 17 and also hoped to attend Friendship night of Bethel 22 in Ashland October 11. Plans were formulated for members of the Central Point bethel to attend the reception for the supreme guardian to be held in Medford October 16. Queen Rebecca has been invited to furnish one of the three entertainment numbers to be presented. , t Society To Show White Cross Films White Cross films will be shown at sa meeting of the Women's Missionary society of Eastwood Baptist church set for tonight at 8 o'clock at the church, Mrs. Ellis Chartier will take charge of the session and Mrs. Carl Jones will give devotions. Hostesses are .Mrs. Phyllis Scott, Mrs. Arthur Mayer and Mrs. William Robertson. Members of the board will meet at 7:15 o'clock. Society members were host esses for a dinner served at the church October 3 for pastors of the Rogue River association and their wives. The occasion was termed "the pastors' conversation." Pres ent also were several officers of the Oregon Baptist con vention. Applegate PTA Hears Attorney John R. Dellenback, Med ford attorney, spoke for a meeting of Applegate Parent Teacher association held Oc tober 6 at the school. - Mrs. T. S. Gapen, presi dent, conducted business meeting. Mrs. John Winning ham, who is 4-H chairman for the group, announced a 4-H achievement night at the school November 26. The county agent will be present. Mr. Dellenback gave a non-partisan explanation ol the fifteen measures which will appear on the November ballot, and later answered questions regarding the measures. The meeting was followed by a social hour. Board Meeting Held in Gold Hill Gold Hill - The board of the Medford Council of United Church Women met at the Gold Hill Community Methodist church October 3. Mrs. Everett Faber, Central Point, president of the coun cil, conducted the business session. Opening devotions were presented by the Rev. Locklln L. Gregory, pastor of the Gold Hill church. Plans were made by the group for World Community day services which will be held November 4 at First Church of the Nazarene in Medford. A report on the program for migrant workers that is being carried on in Oregon was given by Mrs. Walter Higgins. During the business session the council appropriated $45 to aid the program. A report on the mission Institute recently held in Med ford was given by Mrs. B. M. Hoover. Mrs. Geneva Schwan spoke of the Women s Christian Temperance Union activities. Mrs. Wayne Troxel urged all women to participate in the annual fall clothing drive that commenced October 2 and will continue through October 24. Clothing may be collected at the various churches she said, and left at First Christian or First Metho dist churches in Medford. Ballot Measures To Be Explained The womans auxiliary to the Jackson County Medical society will meet at the home of Mrs. B. Brandt Bartels, 35 Valley View drive, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12. An explanation of the measures to be voted on this November will be given by members of the , League of Women Voters. , , 1 .
