0 o O O j THURSDAY. OCTOBER 6, 1960 Q O .B 11 7 Million Forest Tree Seedlings Available in State Salem - Nearly seven mil lion forest tree sedlings will be available to tree planters throughout the state during the 1960-61 planting season from the two state nurseries, one near Corvallis arid the other near Elkton, according to Assistant State Forester Don Maus. This does not include sever al million trees which will go ; into rehabilitation and refor estation of state owned lands, he added. s Production this year Includ es 21 different species which will provide growing stock adapted to nearly all climatic conditions in the state and to meet most planting require ments such as windbreaks and shelterbelts or growing the va rious forest products such as Christmas trees and merchant able timber crops on both the woodland and regular forest areas, Maus added. Trees Are Listed Trees include both the east ern and western Oregon vari eties of the Douglas fir as well as the noble, white, grand and Shasta firs; ponderosa, Scotch, Austrian, lodgepole and mari - time pines; Port Orford and i incense cedars; Sierra red i: wood; Chinese arborvitae, and 'i Norway spruce. Hardwoods in J elude the black locust, carag I ana, Russian olive, Chinese elm and cascara. t "Actual t i m e of shipping the trees is somewhat indefi , nite at the present time," Maus stated. "It will be gov- y erned by weather conditions. ' The trees cannot be removed from the beds until they are - hardened off and the ground is sufficiently moist to permit digging without damage to the ' root system. It will probably be sometime after the middle v of November." : The forester added that the ? order blanks will indicate 7 trees available and shipping i procedures. These will be in " the hands of the various tor- !' estrv field headquarters and ' U n ii n f v atfnntc' nffifPS j mc v " " J shortly betore tne end ot uc- tober. ' ' . . 5 - Woodland owners or others m desiring instruction or advice .in their tree planting prob - lems should get in touch with - the local farm forester or the 7- nearest state forestry depart ! ment field headquarters. This ' is a service the state extends j to all .who have forest man- agement problems, Maus add-' ' . ed. .. . I New Agent Will . Assist C. B. Cordy . Dave Posson has been hired ' as county extension agent to 1 assist with horticulture work in Jackson county, County ., Horticultural Agent Clifford 1 B. Cordy has announced. i Posson replaces Don Berry i who left Sept. 1 to continue " his studies in entomology and ? horticulture at the University h of California at Davis. ' The new aKent was gradu- ated from Oregon State col- i. lege in June, 1959. He ma in .iored in the study of fruits, nuts and berries, and worked with OSC horticulture depart- ment staff members for seven years. For the last lVz years he worked with urantiviernu, who has large commercial or chards in Red Bluff and Ba- kersfield. , Much of Berry's work was f with back yard garden prob- lems. Recent addition of John i McLoughlin to the extension ; office staff as county urban f agent will allow Posson to ! work exclusively with com- mercial orchards, Cordy said. I "We will now be able to help the growers to delineate ' the kind of rootstock , they ' have in their orchards. This L a vital Dart of the study of the pear decline problem here, Cordy saia. - LEGAL NOTICES v ATirr Tt rnFn JTORS IN THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE ST A It Ur unewwn w SON COUN'l r , In the Matter of the Estate of ln ?saleHEREBY"dGIVEN ",..'. f"V J S?Sn fhP.P0WUI An nexed ol the above .Ute by an Order made therein on September 9L. ?6L.?1 ..ed.,ehdaV.nr! hereby notified to present the Jame ydu"y verified and with pro- S7,Y?.M3 Roberu? kelllYigton, Branchfleld 4 fernan .01-. ford.
