Work should be started on at least some ol the projects before snowfall this winter and be completed before fishing sea ton. Proposed facilities and their estimated cost at How ard Prairie include store and coffee shop, $30,000; widen ing of ramp for boat launch ing, $5,000; initial portion of dock and moorage facilities, $10,000; 25 kilowatt electric plant, $1,750; electric wiring for present facilities, $500, and contingencies at Howard Prairie, including architectu ral fees, $5,000. Emigrant Expenditures Emigrant lake estimated expenditures include, sanitary facilities, including two rest rooms, $4,000; water develop ment, $1,500; and contingen cies, $1,750. It may be possible to ope rate a riding academy at How ard Prairie lake, County Commissioner Ralph James said. A letter from James A. Cal lan, of the bureau of reclama tion, offered the county an additional recreation area of 425 acres off the Dead Indian rd. at the east side of the lake. The property includes two barns and a house, James eaid. The parks and recreation commission this week is post ing no hunting signs around the camping area of Howard Prairie lake. Ken nedy" in his effort to carry the state in the presiden tial election, a roving corre spondent for the Washing ton Post has .reported from ICoDl Siullh i-uruana i o the capital's largest news paper. Edwart T. Folliard, veteran White House reporter for the Post, reported the sentiment of politicians he consulted In Oregon was that Vice Presi dent Richard M. Nixon would carry the state for president; Mrs. Maurine Ncuberger would defeat Elmo Smith for the U. S. Senate; and the state's incumbent congres sional representatives would be reelected. "The flarcup of the relig ious issue against Kennedy seems to have surprised many Orcgonians, especially those who had no knowledge or memory of the old Ku Klux Klan days out here," the Post reported. "It even surprised one man who had a vivid memory of those days"-Sen. Hall Lusk. Famous Controversy "In 1022 Lusk, a Catholic, starred in a famous legal con troversy. Leaders of the Ku Klux Klan and others arrang ed to put on the ballot a pro position that would have had the effect of abolishing Catho lic parachial schools In Ore gon.
