SEPTEMBER 30, l90u , Two Churches Announce Events Central Point - The First Presbyterian church, Central Point, will join with thousands of Protestant churches In the world Sunday in observing World Wide Communion. The Rev. Robert W. Olm sted will preach the com munion meditation entitled "He Was Known to Them in . the Breaking of Bread." The Sacrament of Baptism will be administered to those who are being admitted to membership in the church, followed by the public recep tion of new members. Junior church will be held during the worship service at 11 a.m. for children up to twelve years of age. The par ents have been asked to take their children Into the sanc tuary with them at the begin ning of the worship service. After joining, with the adults in worship during the first part of the service, the chil dren will be excused to the social hall where they will have their own worship serv ice. Sunday the Westminster Fellowship will meet at the church at 7 p.m. After the devotional and discussion per iod a fellowship hour will be held in the home of one of th advisor couples which will be announced that evening The session will meet at the church on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Jacksonville - First Presby terian church, Jacksonville, will join with millions uf other Christians of all de nominations around the world in celebrating World - Wld Communion. A 1 1 members and friends of the church are Invited to be present for this service. The Rev. King K. Jones pastor, will give a communion meditation. "The Miracle of Calvary," and the trio which is composed of Mrs. W. A. Worden, Mrs. Melvin Hall and Mrs. Bafe Anders will sing "I Found Him In My Heart." Sunday evening the Jack sonville Westminster Fellow ship will meet at the church to go on a hayrlde and moon light hike. The hayrlde and hike will replace the regular fireside meeting and the pro gram will be held at the des tination. A wiener roast will follow. , Thursday at 8:15 p.m. the session will meet for the plan ning of the 1961 budget. Jacksonville Church Services Scheduled Jacksonville - James R. Hendricks, pastor of the Jack sonville Bible Fellowship, will speak Sunday at 11 a.m. on "God's Day to Eternal Victory." The group meets in the old Protestant church in Jackson ville across from the Jackson ville museum. Sunday school is held starting at 10 a.m. - The pastor will also speak Sunday at 7 p.m. on "The Builder's Blunder." Services arc held at 7 p.m. on Thurs days. The Bible Fellowship Is holding services at the church with the permission of the City of Jacksonville, which owns the building. The pastor is currently living in Medford at 408 Park ave. until a resi dence is obtained in Jackson ville. The public Is invited to at tend all services at the his toric church. Quaker College Receives Pledge Newbcrg - Dr. and Mrs. C. G. Shambnugh, Albuquerque, N.M., this week pledged $100, 000 in securities for the erec tion of a new library on the campus of George Fox college, Newberg, according to Dr. Milo C. Ross, president. This is the largest single gift ever made to the slxty-nlnc year old institution, i The building will be com pletely fire-proof and with the most approved facilities to handle the growing student body, Including space for 50, 000 volumes. Dr. Shambaugh is a former professor at the college and Mrs. Shambaugh is an alumna of the class of 1910. Total costs of the library come to about $300,000. I want to meat this Sunday on . Everyone will be presented wllh a heart, and for each week in October they are present, a larger church to paste on their heart will be given them. Thus showing "How Big Is th-5 Church In Your Heart?" which is the theme for the month. The Chi Rho Fellowship will meet at 6:30 p.m. with Linda Johnson as the study leader and Douglas Mann leading the worship. The Christian Youtn fel lowship will meet at 6:30 cm. The official church board will meet the same evening at 8 p.m. Class Starts Sunday At Eastwood Church Sunday Mrs. Naomi Black- ctor will begin teaching the eleventh- and twelfth grades during the Sunday school hour at Eastwood Baptist church. Her theme for the quarter is Lord and Master. At the 11 a.m. worship the Rev. Clifford Young, pastor, will spenk on the theme, "Three C's at the Lord's Table," using portions of I Corinthians, chapters 10 ana 11 as his scriptural back nronnd. Holv communion will be observed. The chancel choir will sing, "Let Us Break Bread Together on our Knees." At the 6:30 p.m. Baptist Youth Fellowship service, Stuart Young will be in charge of the program. The church is currently running a series, "What Docs the Bible Say" In the Wcdnes day edition of the Mall Trib une. Evangelistic Series To Start in Phoenix Phoenix - The Rev. Lloyd H. Johnson, pastor of the Church of the Naiarene at McKinnleyvllle, Calif., will begin a series of evangelistic meetings at the Phoenix Church of the Nazarene Sun day and continuing until Oct. 16. Mr. Johnson is a former long time resident of Medford and Jackson county and be gan his ministry here. He has been a youth leader in the state of Washington as well as a pastor in that state. He has also pastored In Oregon for a number of years. The Rev, Walter C. Morris is pastor of the Phoenix church. sundaTtopic The Rev. Discussion Clubs 01 Sacred Heart Parish Organized The re - organization of at least 10 religious discussion clubs and the formation of several new ones will take place during the next two weeks as the annual fall ses sion of the Sacred Heart parish discussion club pro gram gets under way. The project Is a part of the total Christian education pro gram of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and accord ing to Arthur Becker, chair man of discussion clubs for the past two years, interest in this phase of religious educa tion has been growing stead ily. The text to be used as a guide for discussion this ses sion is number six in the "This We Believe" series writ ton for the CCD by the Rev, Leo J. Trese. It is entitled "God's Greatest Gift" and treats the subjects of the Mass and the Holy Eucharist. While all groups have been encouraged to follow the same current text, Mr. Becker stated that any previous vol ume of the series may be used if desired. It is not necessary to study them in sequence, he said. Earlier volumes Included "God, Man and God-Man" (the Creed), "The Holy Spirit and His Work" (Creed continued), "Love in Action" (Command ments), "Our Christian Voca tion" (baptism, confirmation, holy orders, and matrimony) and "God Gives His Help" (confession, extreme unction. 1 n d u 1 gences, sacramentals, prayer and the Bible). Open to Interested Persons The discussion club pro gram is open to any interested adult regardless of his re ligious affiliation. Gold Hill, demonstrated how to pan for gold during an out ing of the youth group of the church. The League spent an after noon learning the old time method of gold mining at the Last Chance Mine, property of the Alderbrook Cafe on Sardine creek. About 20 young people and adults learned to use the rocker and gold pan. Zion Lutheran Now On Fall Schedule Zion Lutheran church, Fourth st. and Oakdale ave., will return to its fall schedule of services Sunday. Sunday school will be held at 9:45 a.m. and the worship service at 11 a.m. The Sacra ment of the altar will be ad ministered at the service and the Rev. H. C. Coovcrt, pastor, will speak on "Holy Com munion." Music will be pro vided by the senior choir. They will sing "O Bread of Life." This will be their first presentation of the fall season. Supervised nursery care is provided for children during the worship hour. Senior choir rehearsals will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Two classes for catechetical instruction have been organ ized and meet on Saturday mornings. Rally Day Planned In Phoenix Sunday Phoenix - Rally Day will be held Sunday at Phoenix Church of the Nazarene Sun day school. According to Glenn Yor ton, Sunday school superin tendent, all members and their friends are invited to attend the department's ac tivities Sunday and to attend the classes. New Minister To Be Honored Gold Hill - World Wide Communion services will be held at the Gold Hill Com munity Methodist church, Sunday at 11 a.m. Following the worship hour, the Rev. and Mrs. Lock lln Gregory will be honored at a potluck luncheon In the church dining room. Mr, Gregory will assume his duties as gastor of the church Oct. 1. Mrs. Roy Eskew is chair man for the luncheon. GoldlfChurch Plans Meetings Gold Hill - Evangelist meetings will be held at Gold Hill Christian church on Oct. 4, 5, and 6 Inclusive at 7:30 p.m. Howard Hutchins, pastor of the Oregon City Church of Christ, will do the preaching. Lee Mansveld, former music director at the First Church of the Naza rene in Medford and now pas tor in Astoria, Ore., will preach and sing at the local church Sunday. Mr. Mansveld was assistant at the church, 520 North Hol ly St., during the years of 1956 to 1958. He will give the morning message and also sing in both the morning and the 7 p.m. services. The Rev. Harold M. San ner, pastor, is now giving a series of messages in the Sun day evening services on the major theme, "Creeds Come to Life." The subject title of his message for Sunday is "The Church." The emphasis now being held in the Sunday school is "Evangelism First." A report ing by classes in this pro gram is being done during the adult department session. 'Aspiring Man' To Be Subject . "The Aspiring Man" will be the title of the message which John V. Hcberling will give at the Central Church of Christ, North Central ave., at Jackson st. Sunday at 11 a.m. Mrs. Marjorie Pierce will sing "Jesus Will Walk With Me." Oct. 2 will be Promotion Sunday at the Central Church Bible school. All ages will meet together for opening ex ercises at which time. Super intendent Carl Bennett will preside over the promotion services. Certificates will be presented to the children and they will then go to their new classes. Young people and adult classes will begin a new quarter of study on the book of Psalms. St. Peter's Church Lists Two Services "The Spirit's Reproof" Is the sermon topic chosen for Sunday's two services at St. Peter's Lutheran church, East Main st. and Vancouver ave., by the pastor, the Rev. Missionary To Talk In Central Point Central Point -' The Rev. Merle Arneson, missionary to Mexico, will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. service Sunday at the Community Bible church, Fourth and Al der sts., Central Point. Mr. Arneson will return to the work in Mexico within the next month. For the past few weeks, Mr. Arneson has been helping with the ministry of the Com munity Bible church among the Mexican nationals who have been in the area for the fruit harvest. Miss Carol G r e s h a m will play background violin music dur ing the communion service. Youth groups will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the church for those of junior through col lege age. The evening gospel hour will begin at 7:45 p.m. with a musical program featuring the youth choir, a vocal solo by John Roelfs, and a girls' trio number. The First Baptist church is located in downtown Medford at the corner of North Central ave. and Fifth St. Pathfinders To Conduct Service The morning worship hour Oct. 1 at the Medford Seventh day Adventist church will be conducted by the Pathfinder club under the direction of club leader Oral Tucker,. The service is an annual event at which time the church members hear reports of the club's activities and have an opportunity to see the Pathfinders in uniform. The club members will par ticipate in the program by giving musical numbers and readings. There are 32 members of the Medford Pathfinder club and 10 counselors. A total of 48 local persons attended the state camporee at Honeyman park last week end. NEW AGE CHURCH The October meeting at the New Age church will be Sun day, Oct. 9. "The Divine Pres ence" will be the subject of Dr. Dell E. Millard's sermon lecture at 2:30 p.m. at the church, north of Eagle Point, on Hammel rd.
