MEDFORD, ORE, C 23 Trends Seen In Men's Topcoats Over the last several sea tons certain trends of a hand ome, practical nature have been developing in men's top coats. For fall I960, these trends would appear to be get ting even more solidly en trenched. Among these trends the ma jor one is the shorter lengths in topcoats. The other features worth noting are that the double breasted model-coming along steadily over the last two or three years - is getting still stronger; and that heavier weight fabrics seem to be get ln$ a somewhat better play. 'Very evident is a trend to bif'i patterns and district checks in "style" goods. Top sellers remain medium to datk shades. Hn both single- and double breasted styles, set-in and split-raglan sleeves are wide ly shown. In the natural shoulder group of coats, the slightly fitted, modified ches terfield is tops, followed by Ijritish-type balmacaans with deep wing sleeves and the classic double-breasted Brit ish warmers. ' Also noteworthy is an es pecially dressy dark treat ment dubbed the "impresario look." Features to check here are the fur and fur-look col lars, in ulster and shawl treatments as well as others, a variety of pockets and rich fabrics. Make sure the topcoat you buy fits correctly. Both suit collar and sleeves should be covered completely. Armpits should be roomy enough for easy action and moveability, not tight or cutting. Check for matching of patterns, for good workmanship, for even stitching and for neatly fit ted linings. To make sure your top coat looks its best, carry as little as possible in the poc kets. Never hang a topcoat overnight or for any extended period, by the loop in the nqck of a coat. It can stretch oift of shape. WARMING UP TO FASHION New stoles and mufflers of fer fashion as well as warmth, with solid colors planned to accompany checked or other patterned suits and coals, and patterned styles for solid-color costumes. Carpets Feifcre ' Textures, Colors Texture and color take the floor, in carpet news for fall. A soft, hand-crafted look for carpets Is achieved through extra-thick pile, long loops, bulky yarns and shaggy cut pile textures. Designs - such as a swirl effect cut into thick plush-pile fabric - combine well with texture. Contrasting effect is the needlepoint look, created by tightly looped tufts. Color is abundant and varied. There are many new high - fashion hues, among them plums, apricots and yellow-greens. Iridescent color ings, with a shimmering ef fect, appear in greater num bers. Color and texture together are responsible for some of the most distinctive ideas in carpeting and area rugs. Tex tural effects combine with un usual patterns, resembling an impressionistic painting. Along with the interest in color and more color goes a growing demanu for beige, perhaps because it's an ideal background colrr for showing off other livelier hues. And "beige" can mean anything from off-white to near-cocoa, as current carpet colorings prove. Ptocs SfeiFfe Obtain DetigrttPt domination Numerous candidates, ail with good fashion records, ap pear on thp roster of fall suits. Lengthened jackets, pleated and flared skirts, overblouse accompaniments, and fur get the nomination of many designers, but it's an ticipated that the popularity poll will also accord a vote of confidence to strictly-tailored classics, young-looking short jackets and slim skirls. Demi-fit prevails in jack ets of every length, with easy lines that nevertheless follow the curves. Sometimes there's blousing, cinched in by a belt. Lengths start with the crop ped little jacket and continue through waist, hip-top and wrist levels. Tunic and coat-length top pings for skirls are an im portant category. As in every phase of fa shion, fur and the fur-look hold the limelight. Suit jack ets are collared and lined in just about every imaginable fur or copy of fur. Fur wes kits or overblouses make warm additions to the winter suit. When jackets are not fur collared, they're often collar less - in the belief that it's good politics to be able to dress up a suit with scarves or jewelry. Soft tics shape pretty neck lines, and tie-sashes belt over blouses and long-line jackets Mid-arm length, funnel width often characterize sleeves. Skirts, designed for attrac tive fluidity In motion, take to pleats, flares, bias cuts and soft gathers. Suit fabrics have an air o( refinement. Brushed surfaces, ribbing, plaids and checks win attention. Colors offer pleasant surprises - among them, fall gold, red, vintage wine hues, violet, plum, blue and taupe. COAT COLORINGS White, off-white and pala beiges color many fall coats. HARVEST of VALUES! New Yardley Hand Cream 95 in Press-Action Dispenser , . .
