Students Invited To Take Language Ashland Dr. Anthony De Soto, newly-appointed assist ant professor of foreign lan guages at Southern Oregon college, has invited all incom ing students to avail them selves of the language courses offered. Dr. DeSoto, who' speaks Spanish, English, Italian, Portugese, French, German, and the ancient language of the Incas, pointed out that a knowledge of Spanish is par ticular helpful as it is the language of so many of our neighboring countries. How ever, any language, spoken fluently, he added, aids in the comprehension of a third and a third to the easier ac quisition of a fourth. According to DeSoto, the frontiers dividing mankind are largely those of the mind, the spirit, and of culture which spring from limitations of experience, differences in tradition, belief, and even taste. These differences, he believes, may be overcome by learning the languages of our neighbors. Foreign language courses offered this fall include first and second year French, first and second year Spanish, in structed by Dr. DeSoto, and a two-year course in German taught by Miss Naomi Grant, assistant professor of English at SOC. In addition, extension class es may be arranged if the de mand is sufficiently great, it was announced.
