Called "Timberland Trees," the feature will picture each of 11 commercially important softwood tree species which grow in the 12-state Western Pine region. The featured trees will be ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, white fir, lodgcpole pine, larch, sugar pine, Idaho white pine, incense cedar, red cedar, Engelmann spruce and wes tern hemlock. The growth range of each tree type is indicated on the map. Symbols enclosed in cir cles represent species of pri mary importance within the dotted area, while other tree types of varying importance are noted by initials only. These trees, grown and harvested and re-grown on a sustained yield plan, form the basis for a productive forest economy directly affecting more than 500 communities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Montana, Oregon, South Da kota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
