He said it appeared to show nor mal wear. Baker said he had reports of one other such coin. Martin, married and the father of three, said he was "penniless except for the one penny." RIVERSIDE MEDFORD Barry and Lyndon In Sharp Debate On Senate Floor Washington - (UPD - Political tempers flared in the Senate today as Democratic presiden tial nominee John F. Kenne d's legislative program near ed general collapse. Kennedy's running mate, Senate Democratic Leader Lyndon B. Johnson, engaged Sen. Barry Goldwater (R Arlz.) in sharp debate on the Senate floor. He charged that Republican "obstructionism" was delaying adjournment of the pre-election session. The debate began when Goldwater asked Johnson to give some idea of when ad journment might be possible. Quotes Kennedy Goldwater quoted Kennedy as saying in effect that "we might as well go home." Johnson said adjournment will become possible when Re publicans on the House Rules committee decide to permit minimum wage, housing and education bills to go to con ference. He said the Republi cans are following obstruc tionist policies, and "obvious ly want to make a political session of this." . Goldwater retorted that the House Rules committee is two thirds Democratic. He said "It is surprising to me that the Democrats can't control it." Sen. Kenneth B. Keating (R-N. Y.) said "many of us" will fight efforts to adjourn before a long list of bills is considered. Bills Mentioned He mentioned an Immigra tion bill, a housing bill, an area redevelopment bill and a farm bill "which he (Ken nedy) said he would introduce during this session." "We should not adjourn," Keating said, borrowing a fa vorite phrase of Johnson's, "until we have attended to the people's business." Sen. Thurston B. Morion of Kentucky, Republican na tional chairman, said in a statement no recent Congress has "had so many Democrats floundering so much and pro ducing so little." He said the Democrats had planned the present session "to provide a free political forum for their ticket." Bickering, Floundering "Instead, they have spent wearisome days bickering, floundering and politicking and generally making a sorry spectacle of themselves to the nation - all at the taxpayers' expense," Morton said. "Sen. Johnson's political strategy has blown up right in Sen. Kennedy's face. Sen. Kennedy's frantic appeal now is: 'How do we fold our tents and steal silently away in the night.'
