YFW Auxiliary Coming Events MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD. ORE. SUNDAY. AUGUST 21. 1960 Mrs. Pat Conlee, Clover- dale, Ore., Oregon department president, will make her. of ficial visit at the September 13 meeting of the auxiliary to Crater Lake chapter. Vet erans of Foreign Wars. She will also attend the VFW post and auxiliary district meeting in Brookings September 11. Mrs. I. Troberg, Seattle, past department district presi dent, was a guest of the local auxiliary August 16.- Mrs. Troberg is visiting, relatives in the valley. - . ' A number of activities are scheduled by auxiliary , mem bers for the coming weeks. They will participate in serv ing watermelon to all men at the Camp White domiciliary at 2 p.m. August 21. Another watermelon feed is scheduled for 2 p.m. August 28, when veterans - administration vol unteer services members are invited. Mrs. O. O.. Deberry, local president,: is expected to re turn home this week end from Kent, Wash., where she visited with her . son-in-law and daughter, Mr, and Mrs. Ken neth Pasmore, and family. Twenty-four grandchildren, ai great-grandchildren, and four great - great - grandchil dren also were present.. Nieces and nephews ' at tending were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Burnett and children. Talent; Mr. and Mrs. Milan Burnett, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rodgers and son, Medford Mrs. Valita Lenaburg and Mr and Mrs. Clyde Dean, Port land; Mrs. Harry Sackett, Beaverlon; Mrs. Delpha Chat- neifl,. Oregon City; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Abbott, Fortuna, Calif.; Miss Goldie Abbott, Talent; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd L,ucy and children, Yreka W. A. Childers, Talent; and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Martin and son William Abbott's father and mother and five children left north Missouri in the spring of 1873, starting, to ward the west. At Cheyenne they sold their traveling oul- nt and continued by train to northern California, having run out of. "means" by that time. The pioneer supported his family by day-labor for a year in California and then moved to the Ashland area, where he secured land and es tablished a permanent home. Fourteen children were born n the west. After a short business meeting, bridge, pinochle and canasta will be played. All women who have lived in Medford or vicinity less than two years are cordially invited to attend and become members. Reunion Held Here By. Family Martin A. Hayes, 613 Pine street, was visited by seven of his eight children and 28 of his 33 grandchildren Au gust 12, 13, and 14. The fami ly , celebrated the reunion at the Dardanelle restaurant, Gold Hill, Saturday evening. A family portrait was taken Sunday morning, after which the group attended mass at Sacred Heart Catholic church. A picnic dinner was served Sunday afternoon. Mr. Hayes' children pre sented the portrait to him as a memento of the event Relatives here for the oc casion included Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Rosenthal (Helen Hayes), Cottage Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Lucas D o m i n g u e (Irene Hayes) and five children, La fayette, la.; Mr., arid Mrs. William J. Hayes and six children, Houston, Tex.; Mr. and Mrs. Roger McCoy (Del- la .Jane Hayes) and four of their five children, Sioux City, la.; Mrs. Gerald- Stevens (Ruth Hayes) and two chil dren, Winona, Miss.; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Loop (Ruby Hayes) and four children, San Jose, Calif.; and Richard D, Hayes, Medford. , , Mr. and Mrs. Frank M Hayes and their four chil dren, Brunswick, Maine, were unable to attend. :Two of Mr. Hayes' sisters- in-law, Mrs. H. C. Dickison nd Mrs. Chester ' Wilcox, came from California with Mr. Dickson, a daughter, Vi vien, and the Dickisons granddaughter,- for the reunion. Pop, Mom 'li. Picnic Set Students at Lewis and Clark college, their parents and others interested, are in vited to the annual potluck picnic of the college's local Pop and Mom group. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 26, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Volght, Valley View drive. Reunion and Anniversary Celebrated by Families Eagle Point - The Turner family enjoyed a picnic din ner as they celebrated both their family reunion and the silver wedding anniversary of the Rev. and Mrs. D. E. Mil lard. The event was held at the Millard home on Hammel rd., Thursday, Aug. 11. Dur ing the evening the adults Bryant Family Holds Reunion Ashland - Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Bryant and daughter, Sharon, Santa Clara, Calif., were in Ashland recently for a family reunion at the home of Mr. Bryant's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Bryant, 774 C street. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pruitt and son, John, and Lee Rice and fam ily, all of Medford, and Mrs. Marcelle Rjce, Talent, mother of Mrs. Gerald Bryant. Mrs. Pruitt is the daughter of the Grover Bryants, attended the Shakespearean festival. Claude C. Turner Sr., Cam- arillo, Calif., was the senior member of the family. Oth ers present included Mrs Elsie Turner, Table Rock road, Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Turner and children Denise and Robbie, San Lo renzo, Calif.; Mrs.. Eugene (Janet) Warrick and sons. Randy and Clifford, and Mrs. James McDonald and chil dren, Jimmy, Mark, Johnny, and Jeanine, all of Eagle Point; Miss Hayle Turner, Eu gene; Mrs. Pat Lynch, Cama rillo, Calif.; Miss Leila Tur ner, Sunnyvale, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Olson and children, Peter, Paul, Barba ra and Marsha, Portland. Miss Leila Turner has been spending the past month with her grandmother. Mrs. Elsie Turner, She accompanied her grandmother home following the National Education Asso ciation conference in Calif ornia and will return to Cal ifornia with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Turner Jr., who arrived August 17 to spend a week. Most of the family are for mer valley residents and Claude Turner Sr. will re main for a couple of weeks to visit his grandchildren and relatives. Oregon Switzerland Scene Of Schmidt Family Reunion A reunion of children andter, Min., and their son-in- grandchildren ; of Mr. and law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. .William Schmidt waslMrs- Leonard Almsted, Sa- held August 8-15 at the Schmidt- home in Oregon Switzerland. Five sons, two. daughters ana n grandchildren were to- gether for the event. It was the first time in 35 years that the , immediate . family had been together. Only a grand son in the Navy and another iri Rochester, Minn., were un able to attend. ' Attending were Mrs. J. A. Koelsch (the Schmidts' daugh ter, Dorothy) and Mr. Koelsch, Mission San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Howard McDu- matt (Elsie), Mr. McLumatt and sons, Howard Jr., John, James and Patrick, St. Paul Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Noel Kimmel ' and son, Norman, and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Kim mel and sons,' Robert and Richard; Fremont, Calif.! Mr. and. Mrs. Kenneth Kimmel and sons, Cary, Dennis and irienn, St. Paul; frank Hen ry Kimmel, Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Leo B. Kimmel, Roches- lem, Noel, Keith, Kenneth, Frank and Leo Kimmel are sons of the Schmidts. The Leo Kimmels showed movies and slides taken on their recent three month world tour, made on the liner Caronia of the Cunard line. They stopped at 22 ports, toured 18 countries and were often led by native guides. The movies were shown August 13 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Able, Cherry lane, and Monday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Parker, Phoenix. Guests Here Mr. and' Mrs. Earl Conklin, Tacoma, Wash., are visiting relatives in Medford and Ash land. While in southern Ore gon they also plan to visit with Mrs. Conklin's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Isaac at the Lake of the Woods. Proceeds from the event will be used to help defray cost of a motor ized -wheel chair for a local boy who has muscular, dys trophy.
