All Air-Conditioners Grange News Shady Cove The Shady Cove Grange met Saturday, Aug. 6, in the Sanady Cove school gymnasi um with Master Cecil Kee presiding. Rosco Roberts, district dep uty, a guest, was escorted to the master's station and in troduced. Obligations were given to Mrs. Monty Axtell and Mr and Mrs. Dave Bergman. Phil Motsenbacker report ed on roads in the communi ty. Master Kee reported on the Grange picnic, Lecturer Delia Littlefield thanked those who helped on the Grange program held in the Eagle Point grade school gymnasium. Mrs. Louis Dusenberry gave the Home Economics club re port. Their p i e social was held at the Busy Beaver mo tel in July. The August club meeting will be a potluck dinner at the Edgar Vanderlip home in Ashland. The September meeting will be a picnic lunch at the Reed MsKay home on Rogue river Sept. 13. Ice cold watermelon was served to the 35 members and guests by. committee members Mr. and Mrs. Motsenbaker and Mr. and Mrs. Reed Mc Kay. - BUTTE FALLS The Butte Falls school band under the leadership of Dean Boggan gave a musical con cert at the Butte Falls Grange. It was followed by the mov ing pictures "Wagons West," a picture story of the Centen nial Wagon Train from Inde pendence, Mo., to Independ ence, Ore. Visitors from several Granges made an attendance of 47 for the business session. Visitors Included Roscoe Roberts, Grange deputy; Cecil Kee, master of Shady Cove Grange; Frank E. Hall, master of Live Oaks; Benton Boyce, master of Central Point Grange, and Lloyd S. Lacy, master of Phoenix Grange. Home Economics club chair man Mrs. Elga Abbott report ed that there were nine local entries in the National Grange Sewing contest, with four win ning first prizes in the coun ty. The entries were sent to the state Grange competition where Mrs. Howard Sim monds won third on adult dress and Miss Robin Sim monds won second in the jun ior dress division. The win ning dresses were on display. Also at the state Grange "cookie fair" a first prize was won by a local member, Mrs. H. J. Arnold. Master and Mrs. Ben Fulton had attended the state Grange session in Roseburg and plan to attend the state fair in Salem later. Refreshments were served in the new basement. Next meeting will be Sept. 6 in the Community hall. Eagle Point At the Aug. 2 meeting of the Eagle Point Grange held with the Lake Creek Grange, Dr. Edwin Durno, candidate for Congress, spoke. He gave a resume of his trip as dele gate to the Republican con vention in Chicago. Dr. Durno also spoke about various committees and mea sures he has been working on in the state legislature. Also on the lecturer's pro gram were a clarinet duet by Leslie and Regina Krambeal, accompanied by their mother on the piano, and accordion numbers by Randy and Rod nev Ullom. Following the program H. R. Gilkey, master of the Lake Creek Grange, was escorted to the Master's station and gave a talk. C. C. Hoover, agriculture chairman spoke on a recent trip to Roseburg where he at tended an auction sale. He reported that livestock prices are very low for this time of the year. Home Economics Club Chairman, Mrs. Lester Mc Fall reported on the sal of refreshments during the eve ning's entertainment of the Grange Festival held July 30. On community service. C, C. Hoover asked all who have planted trees in the Grange community service program to take pictures of the trees and turn them in to the com mittee so they may be en tered in this year's project. During the meeting, vari ous reports were made about the success of the Grange Fes tival held at the Elks picnic grounds. It is hoped that it might be an annual affair. At the close of the meet ing refreshments were served by Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wertz and Mr. and Mrs. Otis Hill. The Aug. 16 meeting of the Eagle Point Grange is the monthly social meeting. Central Point The lecturer's program was arranged and presented by the ladies of the Home Economics club for the regular meeting of Central Point Grange on Aug. 5. The program started with group singing, led by Mrs. Arnold Bohnert. "The Trials and Tribulations of a H.E.C. Chairman" was the title of an original skit written by Mrs. O. T. Wilson, chairman. Actors included Mrs. Ed Wal ters, Mrs. William Straus and Ed Walters. Mrs. Fred Kuest sang two solos accompanied by Mrs. Delmar Smith., A flower wreath, over a hundred years old, and a fam ily heirloom was exhibited on the display table by Mrs. Smith. She stated that the flowers were made of very fine wool yarn. During the business session reports on agriculture horti culture and marketing were given by the various chair men. A communication on daylight saving time was read and discussed. Mrs. Wilson announced that the next meeting of the Home Economics club will be at the home of Mrs. Ben Darras on the Foothills rd. Plans for the dinner to be served for the district Garden club meet ing in September will be made. Serving committee for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Caster, Mrs. Effie Caster and Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Moore. Gunmen Get $1,500 From Salem Store Salem-IUPIl - Two gunmen held up Erickson's supermar ket here this morning and escaped with about $1,500 and a package of rubber checks, police said. The gunmen held up man ager Robert Armont, forced him to open a safe, and then locked him in a freezer. Appropriations Asked to Reseed Burned Areas Baker - (UPD - Oregon Con gressman Al Ullman said here Friday that the United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management have asked supplemental appropria tions from Congress to fi nance the reseeding of burned-over forest and range areas. Ullman originally asked that the two agencies take quick action in order to make it possible that funds were made available during the re maining weeks of the current session of Congress. Ullman was notified in a telegram from Edward P. Cliff, acting chief of the for est Service that $800,000 was requested for emergency re habilitation in hearings before the Senate Appropriations committee, of which $90,000 was earmarked for use in Oregon. The supplemental appro priation will probable be ad ded to the Mutual Security appropriations measure now before the committee. BLM officials told the com mittee that $1,500,000 was needed for reseeding of de vastated western range lands. Ullman was confident that the request would be approv ed by both the Senate and House and that the money would be available for use in time to take advantage of fav orable weather conditions for seeding. Portlander Indicted For Manslaughter Portland -IUPD- Peter Sanna, 64, Portland, was indicted on a charge of manslaughter Fri day in connection with the shooting of another Portland er Friday morning. The' manslaughter indict ment was returned by the Multnomah county grand jury. Sanna told police his watch man s gun went off accident ally during a scuffle ,with Jack Albert King, 41, while the two were arguing over a saw in Sanna s small apart ment at the Columbia-Edge-water Country club. King, greenskeeper at the club, died at 8:45 a.m., four hours after the shooting, while in surgery for a bullet wound in his chest. Sanna was originally book ed on first degree murder charges, before the grand jury returned its manslaughter in dictment. Attend the 4-H & F.F.A.
