Travel Editors To Tour Area Four travel editors will tpend two dayi visiting In aouthern Oregon Aug. 5 'and 6 to gather and write ma' Icrial on tourist travel aug' gestioiu, according to the Medford Chamber of Com merce. The four is cosponsored by the Medford chamber and the Pacific Northwest Travel as sociation, with which the chabmer ii affiliated. Each year the PNTA iponsors such tours in five northwestern atates and British Columbia. This is in addition to the sponsorship of booths in seven spring travel shows through which local area literature is distributed. Making the tour will be Campell Geeslin, travel edi tor, the Houston Post; Norma Dane, travel writer. Sunset magazine; Paul Anderson, as sistant city editor, the Ta coma News Tribune; and Tan dy. Ncuse, assistant travel edi- j tor,. Mademoiselle magazine, New York. "Travel editor tours such as j these have been carried on : for the past 12 years," accord- j ing to Don McNeil, chamber manager, who Is arranging ' plans for the tour. "They have resulted in suc cess consistently throughout these years with respect to splendid write-ups about our area in travel columns," he added. ' . "It is our opinion that the work of PNTA has proven it self a hundred fold," he con tinued. "It is important to sell the Pacific Northwest as a package to midwest and east ern tourist prospects." Grange Notes Pomona Grang The July 23 meeting of Jackson County Pomona Grange drew a fair attendance to the Butte Falls Grange hall. Officers absent were Stew ard, Orie Moore; Assistant Steward, Chester , W e n d t; Gatekeeper, Herman Kamp ing; Pomona, Meyrle Carlton; Executive Committeeman and Agriculture Committee Chair man, Herb Carlton; . and Legis lative Committee Chairman, Clarence Davies. Lecturer Mabel Wertz gave her report. HEC chairman Cassie uoloung reported on the sewing contest and an nounced the following win ners: Class A: Leola Simmonds, jouire r aus, ursi; Mrs. tveiyn Cyr; Phoenix, second. Class B: Sue Strang, Butte Falls, first, Class C: Robin Simmonds, Butte Falls, first. Class D: Le ola Simmonds, Butte Falls, first; Nona Hoadley, Belle- view, second. She stated all needlework contest entries must be com pleted by Aug. 31, subordi nate Granges to do their judg ing previous to that date and send only first place winners in for Pomona judging, which will take place the latter part of September. . Entries in the canning contest will be judged at tne next Pomona meeting, Oct. 22. Reports of committee chair men indicated that there was not much change in cattle prices, Iamb and wool prices good, and predicted the future market for hogs to be better, but dairymen were dissatis fied with low prices. Bees were reported doing better in the present warm weather after a poor start in the wet spring. The poultry business of in dividual growers has been badly hit by Co-Ops dealing in eggs and poultry. Imported eggs and fryers are reported selling cheaper than locally grown. It was reported there was nn 80 per cent normal pear crop In the valley, but the labor situation was critical. On education, an upswing in child reading was reported, due to schools assigning more research in libraries, better read children having more chance of admission to col leges and better reading ma terial now being available in paper bound books. Jackson County Pomona Grange went on record ap proving the stand of the Phoe nix school board that the pres ent school district boundaries be left as they are. The lecture hour opened with an audience participa tion song, followed by the de livery of an oration on "Ap athy'1 by Alice Croxton of Sams Valley Grange. Two clarinet solos were played, by Judy Hill, and the program concluded with two historical tableaux by members of Belle view Grange. The Jackson County Grange Festival will be held at the Elk's picnic grounds Satur day, July 30. This will be an all day event with a barbe cued beef dinner served at 12:30 p.m. Next meeting of Jackson County Pomona Grange will be Saturday, Oct. 22, in the Enterprise Grange hall, start ing at 10 .m, .
