Ice Cream Truck Violates Ordinance Medford police Monday in formed officials of Gilman's Dairy Farm Inc., that the com pany would have to stop oper ating a sound truck that plays music on their local Ice cream sales deliveries. In other district court ac tion Monday, the case of Rus sell Bruce Jackson, 39, of route 1, box 180, Talent, who is charged with forgery, has been continued until he can obtain an attorney. Charges of non-support against Edward McCormick, now in California, were dis missed on motion by the dis trict attorneys' office. He has submitted himself to jurisdic tion of a civil court in Cali fornia and is contributing the necessary support for his fam ily, the district attorney's of fice explained. Oklahoma Man Is Arrested in Valley Lester Vosburg, 33, of Tus kahoma, Okla., will be trans ferred to Marion county jail on charges of car theft, Jack son county sheriff's deputies said Tuesday. Vosburg was arrested by Phoenix Police Chief John Atcheson Saturday night on Highway 99 at Phoenix. The police chief noticed the de scription of the car was on a list of stolen vehicles, gave chase, stopped Vosburg and called for assistance from sheriff's deputies and state police officers. The car had been stolen from Turner, Ore., state po lice said. City Has To Pay For Mistaken Identity Mishawaka, Ind. lUPD-Farm- er Ward Fries charged the city $135 for mowing down his 16-ncre wheat crop. The street department said they mistook the farm for a field of weeds. NIXON GETS SCROLL Chicago - (UPI) - Vice Presi dent Richard M. Nixon re ceived a scroll Tuesday from the Hungarian Freedom Fighters Federation which called him "the man best qual ified to deal with the Com' munist enemies of freedom." Nixon told the group he has never had a greater honor than to be associated with the freedom fighters "even on an New Law Extends Time of Obtaining Veterans Loans World War II veterans have two more years in which to obtain Veterans administra tion-guaranteed home, farm and business loans as the re sult of a bill signed into law July 14, 10(10, by the Presi dent, S. T. Brannock, contact representative, VA Domicil iary, White City, said today. Under the same law, both World War II and Korean Conflict veterans can continue to apply for direct loans from the Federal government if they live In designated rural areas where GI loans are not obtainable from the local lend ing institutions. The new law authorizes Treasury Department advan ces of $150 million in each of the next two years of this dis trict loan extension program. New Expiration Data New expiration date for the guaranteed loan program for World War II veterans and for the direct loan program for both World War II and Korean veterans is July 25, 1962. The prior deadline for both programs was July 29, I960, Brannock stated. Since it was started in June, 1944, the GI loan program has guaranteed more than five million loans to World War II veterans, totaling approxi mately $41 billion, and to 775,000 Korean veterans, amounting to nearly $9 bil lion. Since direct loans were first authorized In July, 1950, the VA has made 165,000 direct loans totaling $1.3 billion in rural areas and small towns where veterans could not se cure loans from local lending facilities. Jackson county has always been a heavy direct loan area, Brannock said. While both World War II and Korea veterans may now apply for direct loans through July 25, 1962, Korea veterans may continue to seek VA-guar- anteed loads through Jan. 31, 1965, through previous legisla tion. Remains Unchanged The GI loan Interest rate of 5'4 per cent remains un changed by the new law. The new law will require that earnest money deposits veterans make be placed in trust accounts so that they will be safeguarded in case the builder becomes insolvent, Brannock stated. Another provision will al low the VA to guarantee a loan so long as the application is received prior to the new terminal date.
