Cars came from Grants Pass and Medford and points in between bringing the 150 guests. , . ". - In a spot on a hill above the river, shaded by trees, the groups mingled, chatted, then listened to the beautiful string music provided by Fred Cho quette and Troy Baker, of White City, which added en chantment and beauty to the setting. . . There were also served 16 dozen hot dogs with barbecue sauce, two gallons of pickles, iced tea, orange ade and 15 gallons of coffee. The picnickers went from the VA domiciliary theatre for games, cards and dancing, with music furnished by the Grants Pass National Associ ation of Retired Civil Service employees' orchestra. Fruit punch helped keep the danc ers and others cool. The men comprising the White City 50-Plus club plan these affairs when they are hosts, deciding on the pro grams, what should be done, work on committees, receive and welcome the guests, mak ing It their own party. Rita M. Holmes, organizer and coordinator of clubs and leader of the White City 50 Plus club, is proud of this ac complishment of the members who contribute much time, effort and thought as well as financial support to the proj ects, and they, in turn, ex press their confidence in her leadership and appreciation for her help. For a long time, the time and ability of Mrs. Holmes has been donated to the mem bers of White City. She knows the value of her work, for her efforts are morale-building to the men. In this knowledge, she finds for herself a great deal of peace and satisfaction. The members are proud of her, for as their hostess, she acts with rare grace and charm in the many social events she encourages them to partici pate in. Thomas Leachman, presi dent of the Grants Pass Sen ior Citizens club, spoke lor the groups in thanking the White City 50-Plus club, and the Domiciliary for the happy day, and invited them to share in the Grants Pass senior citi zens club picnic, Aug. 5. .. The day will be long re membered to many people The men had the opportunity of helping plan the affair and to suggest how things might be done so they could truly act as host s, making the guests feel, welcome. It was a wonderful feeling for the members of White City 50-Plus club to do this, because they are so often guests and recipients of other people's hospitality.. Rita M. Holmes was so well aware of this need on the part of the members, she let them plan the whole affair, while she guided the events through the day. Everyone felt that the day had been an enormous Suc cess, through picnics, cards, and ballroom dancing in the theater at White City. Out of it all, Rita M. Holmes has emerged as a sort of magic figure in the minds of the men at White City. Company Constructs Atomic Incinerator San , Jose, Calif. (Science Service) Safer and more economical waste disposal is being accomplished by an "atomic incinerator' installed by General Electric in its nu clear equipment plant here. Before its installation this spring, burnable contaminat ed material at the plant was encased in concrete and dumped in special burial grounds. With the incinerator in one hour 100 pounds of waste 'material can be re duced to a small pile of ashes which may be disposed of easily, cutting disposal costs by 75 per cent, according to company spokesmen.
