(UI'I Telephoto) Six New Laws Concerning Veterans And Dependents Enacted Recently Veterans and dependents lire reminded of six laws enacted recently by Conitress, and approved by President Kluenhower, S. T. Brannnck, contact representative, V. A. Domiciliary, Whlto City, said Saturday. . They are: " 1. PL 80-11)0 provides that If a veteran submits proof of dependents within 00 days of notice thut the evaluation of his service-connected dlsabll Uy la Increased to SO per cent or more, tho additional com pensation for the dependents will be paid from the date of evaluation Instead of the date proof was received by the VA, s the previous law required. 2. PL 80-401 makes uni form the man-lane require ments for widows entitled to death benefits under cither death compensation or depen dency and Indemnity compen sation, llrannock snld. , For death compensation It extends from 10 to 15 years the time limit within which the widow must hovo married a veteran who later died from a service-connected cause fol lowlnit the termination of the period of service In which he aii.itnlncd his service-connected disability, he said. This law does not affect a widow who qualifies because he was married to the veter an for five or more years or where a child was born of the ninrrlatje. 3. PL 8(1-4(12 allows a wid ow eligible to receive depend ency and Indemnity compen sation, which Is based on the rank of the deceased veteran nl tho time he was separated from the service, to have the benefit of u higher rank than at time of separation from the service provided he held It for at least six months and was holding It within I2U days of the date of his separation or death, 4. S. office of educa tion, will allow the Univer sity of Oregon's Kraduate school to award MO National Defense Education Act Fel lowships fur the 19110 0 1 aca demic year. Dean Harry Alpert of the graduate school, who will di rect l h e program, reported that the grant will also enable expansion of the graduate program here. Between 7 and 10 new faculty members will be added, he said, to concen trate on graduate work. The program will also In clude visiting lecturers, Al pert said. This will be the second year of the program for Oregon. Last year 18 fellowships were awarded. The entire national pro gram, which has been desig nated under the act to run for four ycarB, awarded 1,500 fellowships this year. Oregon received 30, one of the lnrgest numbers to go to a single university. PL RB-407 authorizes the waiver of premium payment to be granted, upon applicat ion, to totally disabled World War II and Korean conflict veterans, who became totally disabled in line of duty after .making application for Insur ance and prior to the date their insurance became effect, he, Brnnnock said. The waiv er of premiums renders the insurance non participating while the waiver Is In effect. CHAPLAIN ASSISTANT Wilson Gllinsky, son of Mrs. Lcona Gillnsky, Carglll court, is stationed at Ft. Ord. Calif., with the U. S. Army. Follow ing his training there, where he is assistant to the chaplain, he will nltend school for train ing in this field.
