IWJ Military To Handle New Salem Armory Salem - IUPD - Oregon Adju Uint General Alfred Hint, made It clear Tuesday that the military department will manage Salem's new Armory auditorium, due for comple tion at the state fairgrounds next year. He said that under the law his department will operate the building. The word came at a session of the military, State Fair Commission and the Armory steering commit tee. The Fair Commission had expressed a desire earlier for State Fair Manager Howard Maple to act as manager for the million dollar structure. Peruvian Claims Relations Strained Salem IUPD A congressman from Peru said here Tuesday that relations between Ameri ca and Peru arc under a strain because of Fidel Castro's hate America campaign In Cuba and is accented by deep Com munist Infiltration in all of Peru. Sixto L. Gutierrez of Lima, visiting with Gov. Mark Hat field, said the Communists, however, have little say In the current Peruvian govern ment. Mrs. Krauss was born In Oakland, Ore., May 7, 1902, the daughter of the late Ben jamin H. and Jennie Eliza beth Cole. Coles Valley was named after her great grand father, Dr. Sidney Cole. Her grandfather came to Roseburg In 1851. She was married July 2, 1949, In Roseburg, to George B. Krauss, who survives. Other survivors Include a son, John W. Simpson, Eu gene; two brothers, Lloyd Cole and Cecil E. Cole; and three sisters, Mrs. Alma Mil ler, Mrs. Mabel Neil, and Mrs. Violet Willlngs, all of Rose burg; and two granddaugh ters. Casket bearers will include Glen Welker, Roseburg; Dean Russell, Sutherlin; Stanley Moore, Wilbur; Curtis Cole, Grants Pass; Roy Welker, Gold Hill; and Delbert Oli- phant, Roseburg. JAMES A. REA Funeral services for James Albert Rea, 68, of the Rex hotel, who died Sunday, will be held at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel Thursday at 11:30 m. The Rev. Mr. Rea was born April 6, 1892, In Santa Cruz, Calif. He was a veteran of World War I, serving from May 3. 1918, to May 27, 1919, as a Corporal in Company I, 62nd infantry. He was a former member of the VA Domiciliary at White City, where he had served as a motion picture projectionist. Survivors include a daugh ter, Mary Rea, Hollywood, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Velma Lcask and Mrs. Ger trude Rice, both of Santa Cruz, Calif. ANNETTA M. SCALBERG Funeral services for Mrs. Annetta Mary Scalberg, of 2231 Ross lane, who died Monday, will be held at Con ger - Morris Funeral home downtown chapel Thursday at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Mrs. Scalberg was born Feb. 22, 1893, in Goodhue county, Minnesota, and had lived in southern Oregon for the past 13 years. She was married Jan. 2. 1910, in Mora, Minn., to J. Mr. Centner was born Nov. 24, 1880, in Mill City, Nev. He had lived in southern Ore gon for many years, where he was employed by the Cali fornia Oregon Power com pany. MARY FLITCROFT Grants Pass ,- Mrs. Mary Louise Flitcroft, 74, died in a Grants Pass nursing home Tuesday. She had lived in the Grants Pass and southern Ore gon areas since 1939. She was born in Coos coun ty. Oregon. Sept. 27, 1885. Survivors include her Hus band, Marvin Otis Flitcroft, Grants Pass; four daughters, Mrs. Brica Cadwallader, Van couver, Wash., Mrs. Emma Gasner, Coquille, Mrs. Lu cille Ireland and Mrs. Norma Pitman, Grants Pass; three sons, Edward Flitcroft, Coos Bay, Norman Flitcroft, Van couver, Wash., and Marvin Flitcroft, Grants Pass; a half sister, Carrie Boone, Coquille; 14 grand children and 20 great grandchildren.
