Committee Reviews Tax Credit System Salem U7PD - Hie legislative Interim committee on taxation Tuesday discussed a tax cred it system as a possible means of lowering state income tax rates while at the same time Increasing state tax revenues. Richard- Eymann of Mo hawk, executive secretary of the committee, suld this could be accomplished because the tax credit plan would be more equitable but would also bring more people under the tax laws. The tax credit would be In lieu of the $800 exemption now applied. The committee Is consider ing several plans designed to bruaden Oregon's Income tax base. Chairman Clarence Barton (D-Coquille) said It la the in tent of the committee to come up with a proposal for tax relief while at the same time raising enough revenue to op erate the state government. Thornton To Attend Meeting in London Salem IUPD - Attorney Gen eral Robert Y. Thornton will represent the National Asso ciation of Attorneys General at the United Nations Con gress on Crime Prevention and Treatment ot Offenders In London, England, next month. City Stores Items Lost at Local Pool If anyone has been missing their swimming trunks lately, they might try contacting the parks and recreation depart mcnt In the Medford city hall. The department has 15 pairs of apparently lost swim trunks which are among more than 100 Items left by absent-minded swimmers at the Hawthorne Pork swim, ming pool ao far this summer, The items, which Include jackets, thongs, billfolds, a bcachbull and numerous un mentionables, have been ac cumulating at the pool since the swimming season opened. The department hos recent ly inventoried these Items and transferred them to tho city hall where they will be held for the owners for about 30 days. Those Items which have not been claimed at the end of 30 days will then be given to the police department for disposal.
